Why Does Capitalism Work (as well as it does)?

If it were not for social reformers and meddling politicians (meddling politicians are responsible for the government intervention), why isn't capitalism a dehumanizing despotism?

The idea that unmitigated capitalism led to our high standard of living is a load of shyt.
