The bite is there for some one to complete the missing - Apple does it all the time, out-of-the-box thinking, by Apple.com
How about it shows the apple is as good on the inside as it is on the outside. No point having a lovely looking apple only to find it's rotten on the inside. Bit like some companies really, lol
guys, check the Apple page on Wikipedia and the Logos section over here. Everything is explained there... Have a look at the slogans section while you are at it. It reads about the "Byte into an Apple" slogan. See the connection, bite and byte. Maybe that's why they took a bite of the apple just to make a reference to the computer terminology. Who knows? We have to ask the person who designed it...
i quite like the logo..perhaps its because its always been like that, but yeah, a whole apple would look rather boring..
Actually, none of what I've read is true. Alan Turing, one of the early and creative geniuses for computers and very influential in WWII with cracking German codes - was also a homosexual. He was persecuted by the British government because of his homosexuality and in 1954, supposedly committed suicide by taking a bite out of an apple laced with cyanide. I believe that Apple is honoring him by having the bite taken out of an apple as its logo. This is a fitting tribute to a genius of computers, persecuted because of his sexual orientation. So sad and unfortunate!
From theapplemuseum.com: When Jean Louis Gassée was asked about his thoughts to the Apple logo he answered: "One of the deep mysteries to me is our logo, the symbol of lust and knowledge, bitten into, all crossed with the colors of the rainbow in the wrong order. You couldn't dream of a more appropriate logo: lust, knowledge, hope, and anarchy." Course they ditched the colors eventually. Stephen C
