Why doesn't Google give its competitors a PR=0 and while they are at it, remove their sites from its cache?
They don't have to show any website if they don't want to but I think it's not allowed to push biggest competitors down to the search engine results. It might be against the law. OR they have made an agreement that if msn and yahoo show google results in their search engines then google will do it also. *Actually I just made few searches. Umm people don't search for msn search engine but they search for msn as messenger and Google wins searches with this. (Helping to find what people want). It's exactly the same with Yahoo!
They are Googles biggest competitors. They don't want to link off their site to their competitors site. Bad business.
I'm sure there are some legal reasons against doing this. For searchers of course it would be kind of strange if one of the biggest sites on the internet like Yahoo suddenly couldn't be found in Google at all. That wouldn't say much for the quality of their search engine either.
On their webpage explaining how PageRank is calculated, Google says, "There is no human involvement or manipulation of results, which is why users have come to trust Google as a source of objective information untainted by paid placement." The link is: http://www.google.com/corporate/tech.html
Google is not against them... they like their competitors... as any other good business house... so that people can see them and compare them to be with a good company... and other competitors r not dependant on GOOGLE PR.. so no effect is there either...
Google does not dare to do it, in IE when you type google.com you will get redirected to msn search page then, when someone search the keyword google in yahoo (one of the top keyword) yahoo can redirect its user to some sponsored listing page saying no result found for google.
Now yahoo is PR9, msn is PR8 If G give yahoo pr0 then msn shall become PR(-1) and google shall become only PR1 OMG I do not know what my sites PR will become?
I think that Google aren't so childish as to try and stop traffic from them to the other engines, it looks bad and how many people here would say it's pathetic? xD Google is fair on all websites, no matter what.
If so, it would give a bad reputation before the public and hence google wants to treat its competitors in a fair manner; that would be a good business acumen
Hi , As all knows google can do anything regarding SERPS and PR. But the results shown in google are genuine. As people first open google as a search engine so doesn't matter if google gives them PR 0 or like that But i appreciate your think But Google is Google Always Great and Right
It really doesnt matter. Google is not evil, they are just putting relevant content. If you search for something related to yahoo then thats what you want to find.
1 question - what would they achieve by doing so? - Removing from Search Engine: most people know the URLs anyway. It's only lazy people that use google to get to MS or Y! websites (that includes me ). Lazy people would just become less lazy if google removed Y! and MS results from search. - Giving PR0: MS and Y! aren't sad obsessive little webmasters (sorry, rather harsh there!) who care about their PR. Nowadays, the only reasons small/medium website owners care about PR is because it affects the value of their site should they sell it - this isn't going to concern Y! and MS and people aren't buying simply a website but a business.
I think it's all in good form. Google gives kudos where they are deserved, and as such, the PR rating for MSN and Yahoo are as they should be. If such popular sites were devalued simply because they are competing sources, then that would remove all credibility behind the system. As it stands no one can really call out manipulation of their own sites due to the big G treating all sites fairly.
