I am just working my way towards becoming the Übermensch.

And yes, I realize that eventually the Universe will die from lack of energy -- no matter what we do. That does not imply that there is no meaning to our lives now.

This is something Hitchens and Harris (the two stooges of atheism) have never been able to explain satisfactorily. Sure, we all die but is that just it? They are going to have to come up with a better explanation than "oh yeah, lets just use the time we have to be better humans" (by ridiculing religions, mostly) and forget about the real issue of what happens next.

Nothing happens next; get used to it.

When you die, you die. Only the works you accomplished in your life will survive your death.

Death: The cessation of brain activity.

Life has only the meaning which we give it. If you give your life no meaning, it has none. Sucks to be you.

Maybe you're just to selfish to understand what the point is.

Same as before you were born.

@awinsjclarke how is an atheists life pointless when you are the one wasting it crouched on the floor with your arse in the air grovelling and begging for another one?

So forget "life" for a minute. Let's say you're playing Monopoly, and you ask

"What's the point of Monopoly", everyone stops playing it eventually?

    Does this make sense?

There's still a point to playing Monopoly right? perhaps to "WIN"

If life is a game (slightly more complex then monopoly, and without a nice written set of rules that everyone agrees on)

    Life ends eventually

But it can still have a point. Perhaps we all have to define what it means to "win", perhaps there can be multiple "winners", but none-the-less the fact that the game ends does not mean there is no point to playing it.

In fact, I might ask the opposite question. If life didn't end (if you went on forever and infinitly and never die), would their be any more of a point then if you die?

Whatever the point of life is..I'm pretty sure it's not to try and escape death so you can play forever.

The appreciation of life has much to do with its meaning.

The avg life span of Human beings is not that short at all....

True. Life on earth is very short compared to the eternal life. Who can compare an average of 70 years to eternity?
We came into this world with nothing and we are leaving with nothing. The way we live our lives on earth will determine our eternal place and religion plays a big role in this.

According to Buddhist perspective, the point is that life is the cause of death. It's important to think about death and to die while you are still here, so you can enjoy the deathless state of unending ease.
