As an editor, I'm very interested in knowing why getting a Dmoz listing is so important to you. Exactly what is it you gain or think you'll gain? I'm not a webmaster or seo guy and I don't understand the lingo, so I'd appreciate it if you could explain it in laymans language.
I like to be listed to get higher page rank of my site and get indexed in short period. Most famous website is listed in DMOZ.
You have 818 posts and you are a dmoz editor, but you don't understand why people try to list their sites with dmoz? Anyways, sometimes I don't get it either. I mean, why do people keep submitting their sites to dmoz? Here my 2cents dmoz review.
No, I really don't, as it has nothing to do with what editors do in the Directory, and that's what those 818 posts were about. lmbo, that's wishful thinking, Jim.
not really crowbar, i have my own website listed under local web designers category , and i do get visitors looking for web designers in my hometown
Not my case, but commercial sites may want to be listed because its main competitors are already listed there. And I guess you don't need an explanation about why someone needs to be listed along with his competitors. For a non-commercial site I guess it's all about pagerank and a little more traffic. What are you going to prove with this thread anyway?
I'm just trying to educate myself a little, not being a website builder. If you're going to shoot your mouth off, it's only fair that you should be willing to listen to the reasons that people are so passionate about getting listed. Page Rank seems to be one of the reasons, though I don't really understand what's involved with that. I know that my attitude when explaining something doesn't always come across as very friendly, but it's usually because I'm concentrating on the facts.
If all people were rushing to dmoz they must be something about it. Until now, I've no websites that listed on dmoz
Considering amount of traffic I receive from DMOZ there doesn't seems to be many folks researching a particular topic through DMOZ since I get zero visitors from DMOZ compared to 16,582 from Google.
i submitted my website over a year ago then paid an "expert" since i might have did it wrong and still not listing in dmoz
I want my sites to be listed on dmoz because there are very few sites in portuguese in dmoz. I think the portuguese editors are very few, so I am trying also to be an editor
A listing in DMOZ is considered (by Google) to be a link from an Authority Site. Authority Sites pass more rank onto the sites they link to; the more Authoritative Sites you have providing links to your site, the better listings you'll have in the Search Engines. A comparison is getting links from .edus and .govs; Google values links coming from those types of sites much higher than those coming from .com/etc.
