Yeah, I have trust issues with Facebook. Simply put, I don't trust them. I use it but only stuff I want to share is on there. Really when you think about it who can you trust? LOL >_< I hope you didn't mistakenly start a crazy conspiracy theory idea lol.
I don't true facebook , and don't give away my information in there specially the personal ones even if I do in rare cases I share just with the ones I really know
I don't trust Facebook or any other site. The thing that's getting me is going to a site in another tab while still logged into Facebook. Then finding an app has been added to my account because I visited the other site. Then I have to find how to block that particular app. The latest one was flern. These apps like this will even post crap to your wall if you don't find them and stop them. What a hassle. Then with the Like buttons there and all over the place. You can't tell if some of them are site specific or tied to Facebook. I noticed that YouTube started the Like thing too. I liked the old rating system better. I think having a scale is much better than just a Like. Now do I Like it or Not. Is it actually good enough to give a Like. If I Like it 3 out of 5 does it still earn a Like. If you do want to give a Like for one thing do you want a Facebook connected site to have access to your info because you liked something on their site. I haven't figured it all out yet but I know it wasn't made easy to deal with on purpose. With Facebook it's seems to be one privacy issue after another. Kerosene - thanks for the YouTube link for "Leo Laporte Deletes His Facebook Account" I got a kick out of watching that. Loco.M - thanks I just opened a tab for the link to "How To Put Facebook On A Privacy Lockdown" you provided and will read it when I exit here.
It's still depend on the user if he/she want to share some info. As for me, It was a big NO NO also. I still want to keep my privacy intact and social networking site or any other internet related issues has nothing to do with my personal life. I also want to secure my family too.
I am not into facebook or any other social networking site. So it doesn't matter to me. One thing I've seen is photos posted on facebook being misused on some other websites. (Presumably without knowledge of the person)
Of course facebook cares about our privacy.... is not htey will lose credibility... facebook is the biggest social notwork right now. and they have the best practices in privacy policy,
you never really know who can be looking at you. you could have your identity stolen just as easily by throwing out your bank statement into the garbage can. just be careful cause there are freaks out there especially you ladies
I don't trust them either, even less so after knowing that they provided private user information to advertising firms, what a shame...
in my country, people trust them because there are still few crime by using identity on FB... but for now, the people become very becarefull, and some don't trust FB anymore. I still not change my FB identity because i don't think someone can do crime with it. (because i'm not popular)
It's Very Bad to know that they are sharing Personal informatin with other just they are lossing their reputation and soon they will see the result peopel wil away frm them and me too
Same here. I don't know why so many people are uptight with FB. Plain and simple - don't be stupid and post your phone number or street address, or any other sensitive info. I don't even put my home town on my profile. I also made it so that you can't see anything at all except my 1 main picture and name if you directly visited my link, or were able to find me via a Facebook.com search (profile is blocked to search engines).
I once tried to find out if someone can see if I visited his profile page, or how many times I did it. And started to dig on the subject and I found a lot of forums talking about that and the general conclusion was that there is no software which would betray you spying on someone's profile, that facebook uses a fancy algorithm to protect your privacy. This is just an example. But the other info, like tel. number, email etc., it's up to you if you share it or not. You say it might be given to companies, although you set them on private?!
You can make information private in the sense of it not being on show to other users, but none of it is private to facebook itself and its shared with companies, i think its called data mining. Heres something im thinking about, facebook has or is approaching 500 million users, the world population is approaching 7 billion, thats a large chunk of the worlds population on facebook. I dont think its an exageration to suggest that economies in countries could be manipulated with the sheer amount of consumer and demographic information that is being collected, i think its more than the information just being useful to large companies. Here in the UK they are very focused on trying to make sure that as many people have broadband connections and faster connections, they want nothing to be in the way, nothing to stop people being online, now to the naive that sounds like we have it great here in the UK but its not to help us, its to help them, its becoming the norm to document daily lives online, facebook makes this so easy. Where we have store cards which show the types of things that we buy in exchange for profile points, on facebook the idea seems to be to purely give them free information, sure it provides a platform to communicate, but you can communicate in various ways without facebook.
I think, that the whole idea of Facebook is that you make yourself public, like if you upload smth to Youtube, you won't be surprised if someone actually watches it. Be smart, think before you post. Also there are new privacy options now on Facebook for whom your info will be visible. So if you put V for everyone, don't be surprised.
