Some people say that "atheist believers" are followers of the devil that were put in this world to lead people not to believe in God. You should be ASHAMED of yourself for saying these kinds of things and pray to God for forgiveness.
you should hear what "some people" say about believers. it's far more offensive and much more grounded in reality, with not even a hint of supernatural bogeymen. See this is your problem. A theists beliefs start of with mythology, And when people don't fall for it, they start with threats from invisible men. It's incredibly infantile. You would find it so much easier to defend your opinions if they were based in reality.
There is so much more out there then we can see with our eyes , hear with our ears and touch with our hands. Havent you ever felt something you couldnt explain from deep within the core of you, or do you believe we are born, we grow up, we grow old and then die and become dirt again? Who is to say with 100% certainty that a soul does not exist?
Nobody can say with 100% certainty that a soul doesn't exist... But then, The disbelievers are never the ones claiming absolute certainty about anything, it's always the believers who do that. Imagine if i was to justify the belief that an invisible unicorn that shits invisible candy exists by pointing out that "There is so much more out there then we can see with our eyes , hear with our ears and touch with our hands". Would me pointing out this obvious fact give any credibility to my claim? Would it make the existence of such a creature any more likely?
Corniest piece of crap i ever see. I rolled my eyes so much while watching it that i had to watch it again just to make them point in the right direction. What fictional god was this interview supposed to be with? the petty, vindictive, spiteful god of the bible? The bloodthirsty, misogynistic god of the koran? The genital mutilating god of the torah? It didn't sound like any god i have heard of. "gods hand took mine and we were silent for a while" - pass the bucket, I'm going to be sick.
Don't take it the wrong way. I have never physically seen him or heard an audible voice. But sure, I believe that there are things that have happened in my life that showed how awesome he was. Even if you don't believe in that sort of thing, there is certainly other reasons why believing in God is logical.
Is there no other plausible, more likely, ways that these things could have happened without being the result of supernatural intervention?
It would be dumb to say there were no other theory's out there. We have to keep in mind though that they are theory's though, not laws. If that is the approach, then we can safely assume that any way that you believe requires some form of faith. Whether that is evolution, a big bang theory, a mixture of some, or whatever... none are absolute. I personally put my faith in God.
You don't need faith to believe a scientific theory, All you need is an understanding of the evidence. A scientific theory isn't speculation, it's an explanation of facts. The explanation of gravity is "gravetational theory", No faith is required when believing in gravity, Gravity is a fact, Gravitational theory explains how it works. Like evolution. Evolution is a fact, The theory of evolution explains the fact. A "theory" isn't a hierarchical rung on a ladder of certainty, it's an explanation of the facts. What i was asking is whether there is any other, more plausible explanations, for the things that lead you to conclude god done it.
Gravity is also considered to be a law (Newton). Unfortunately, there is no "Law of Supernatural Creation" or "Law of Creation Through Big Bang". Sure, we can look outside, find things that perhaps could be viewed as evidence of each of them. In the end, they are not scientifically absolute. If you believe whole-heartedly in one or the other, it requires some form of faith. As far as answering your question, no, there is no reason for me to alter my beliefs at this point (which I believe is where you were going with it ?). In fact, science also provides evidence of an existence of God as well. Science doesn't just push some of its most popular ideas. I don't mind talking with you about it as long as it is respectable on both sides. Lets be honest, we're not going to solve a debate thats been going on for thousands of years on the DP forums.
Gravity is considered a law because it's a force, It has definite ways in which it behaves, but that doesn't negate the fact that the explanation of gravity is gravitational theory. the theory of gravity explains how gravity behaves, it explains the effect is has on mass. Just like the theory of evolution explains how evolution works. here are a list of theories, Do you doubt the existence of any of them besides evolution and the big bang? In other words, are you only forced to doubt the ones that disprove biblical accounts of reality? Do you, for instance, disbelieve in knots just because there happens to be a "knot theory"? I don't think you understand what i am saying. Earlier you said that there are some things that happened in your life that showed you how awesome god is. What i want to know is are there any other plausible explanations that could account for these experiences that aren't a result of supernatural intervention? In other words, Is the intervention of a god the only possible explanation for these events.
No, but because theory's do not need to be absolute is the reason that we don't have to take every theory in existence as fact. The list you have there probably doesn't cover even a small fraction of all the theories in existence. For example, there is certainly a distinct difference in gravity and the big bang in one being absolute, the other is not. Would you agree? Oh, sorry, big misunderstanding. No, I would say that there are some things i've experienced that have no scientific explanation for them.
Theories aren't facts, They can never be facts, They are explanations of facts. A theory doesn't progress to become a fact or become a law, it's an entirely different thing. it's a fact that the universe is expanding in all directions, The big bang theory explains why. it's a fact that different species share common ancestors, the theory of evolution explains how that happened. it's a fact that a ball will fall if you drop it, Gravitational theory explains how it will do it. And know what, Even if gravitational theory, Big bang theory and the theory of evolution are disproved (which they wont be) it will still be a fact that the universe is expanding, that a ball will fall when dropped and that different species share common ancestors. Give an example of something which has no other possible cause outside that of supernatural intervention.
