Why are website templates such poor quality? It strikes me as odd that better more versatile templates haven't risen to the top.
The templates that tend to sell are ones that get a lot of votes and become popular. Since template really hit the market big a few years a go those old style templates are still what people know. Also, other things you have to consider with bigger and more extravagant templates are if the designer can program. Many times different parts of a template are Flash or programmed horrible. It is easier to take a generic template and customize it compared to having to recode a designers poor excuse for code.
Are you referring to the free templates on the web? You can't do anything about it dude. You might as well create your own template and compare them to the existing ones on the web
I'm starting to see a few templates that aren't nearly as bad and are decent. I'm still confused as to why they haven't caught on though. I can follow why we are inundated with low to medium quality sites trying to sell access to 15,000,000,000 crappy templates for $20, but I don't see the top players doing very well. For example template monster still advertises on quantity not quality, and I've not seen anything to convince me otherwise. (Perhaps it appeals more to the beginners whom are there market anyway?). If there are good templates showing up on the market, why aren't they rising to the top? (Unless that's what is really happening & I'm just not catching on?)
