Hi- If any of you could spare a moment to look at these two pages, I'd appreciate it. These guys have a new domain, 0 page rank and no inbound links. My site is 2 years old, has hundreds of inbound links and PR=5. Their site: http://www.garminnuvi370.com/ My page for the same product: http://gpstracklog.typepad.com/gps_tracklog/2007/03/garmin_nuvi_370.html EDIT: For the search term "Garmin nuvi 370 review" Amazon ranks 1 & 2. They rank 3 & 4. I rank 5 & 6. Thanks for any help you can offer.
Me too! I did a brief comparison today to see how the pages compared for the product name and the word review. We're not too far apart except on use of the product name in headings, underlining, etc. They do it 12 times to my 5. Also, I edited the OP to show the search term "Garmin nuvi 370 review."
Well, let's see... Theirs: <h1><img src="/images/globe.gif" alt=" header" align="left"> <a href="http://www.garminnuvi370.com/">Garmin Nuvi 370 Best Prices & Reviews</a></h1> <div class="Desc" style="text-decoration:underline;">Help getting the cheapest and lowest prices and nuvi 370 reviews!</div> Subtext is content not a header, said H1 includes the product name. Yours: <h1 id="banner-header"><a href="http://gpstracklog.typepad.com/gps_tracklog/" accesskey="1">GPS Tracklog</a></h1> <h2 id="banner-description">GPS reviews, news, tips and tricks from the author of GPS Mapping - Make Your Own Maps</h2> Subtext mismarked as a header, text inside the header not related to the topic the page is about. That alone could get a .5 or .6 ranking difference. In fact your search topic isn't even present in your header. It could be as simple as that. They have the product title in their h1 and domain name, you do not.
Yeah, the limitations of Typepad. If I had it to do over again... They got me beat on the header, but I have the right title and the product is in the URL. Then there is this. I rank number one and two for the 670. They aren't in the top 30. If their SEO is so good, why can't they rank for another product page?
its not about iTheir SEO is good or not, they have the exact keyword combination in their .COM domain name, thats the reason why they rank 2 its abvious... with an additional little effort (link building, on-page SEO) they could rank 1 easily..
Hi http://www.garminnuvi370.com/ has 2 PR6 links from Netscape, a very respected source according to G, they also have Garmin nuvi 370 review in their H1, H2 & Meta keyword tags. You do not seem to have H1 or H2 or Meta keyword tags with Garmin nuvi 370 review in them. They are also using have Garmin nuvi 370 in 20% + of their back link anchor texts, where as you appear to have it in only about 9% of yours. My recommendations put the keywords in H1, H2 & Meta keyword tags. Get some more back links with the anchor text Garmin nuvi 370. They appear to be targeting only the Garmin nuvi 370 so that is why they are not ranked for the 670, they have not attempted too. They do not appear to be aggressively link building at the moment, they might have just got lucky with Netscape, so you should regain your position in no time, however this analysis was just a quick 5 minutes and I would keep an eye on them if I were you.
They have not repeated there trick on Netscape yet for http://www.garminnuvi670.com although their on page optimisation is quite good. So if they do get the quality targeted links they will more up.
Thanks. I will keep an eye on them. Isn't Netscape like a social bookmarking site now? Can't you just self-submit? I'm on Typepad which has had its pluses and minuses, but I have no control over H1, H2 and meta keyword tags.
Yes you can self-submit to Netscape, get a few friends to support your article and you can even rank on their front page. Are you making money from these sites? I am only asking because if you are it might be worth starting seperate sites for each model, would cost a little $30 a site per year, but you would have more control and you could make it harder for the competition to move in.
Thanks. Some models can generate revenue, others very little or none. So it would be hard to predict which ones to take separate. Its a good lesson in how someone can cannibalize you quickly in this business though.
Another Typepad limitation. On the plus side, I get to spend my time blogging instead of having to deal with lots of technical stuff.
