Why do some people think Anime is funny?

Well I live on a campus and there are many groups one of them being a Anime club. A friend and I walked into one of there meetings and they were watching some kind of anime cartoon. They would laugh like every 30 seconds. I mean they could laugh at some one picking up a can of soda! I had know clue what they were laughing about. So me and my bud starting just randomly laughing to fit in. Well I just dont get why they all thought this cartoon was funny it made no sense to me.

 

Though you are justified about your friends incongruous laughter, I am addicted to the animated cartoons since as a kid. I was, am and will be the fan of Tom and Jerry cartoons

 

Well Tom and Jerry isn't really Anime it's a carton. I love Tom and Jerry. These guys were watching some kind of scifi anime Dvd. They kept laughing because some kid was waking up a guy.


Also, i'm not puting down anime I just want to know why they would laugh at somthing that I cant comphrend to be funny. Myself I like a few anime dvds. But I do love cartoons I am 19 now but it wasnt to long ago I was watching cartoons all the time. My all time favorite being ren and stimpy!

 

It was probably an ongoing joke from earlier in the series.

 

Anime has less focus on plot or at least the story is shown differently than most Western films and television. A lot of humor in anime either doesn't translate well or you have to know a fair amount of Japanese culture and merchandise to understand.

There's also a chance that those people were laughing for the same reason you were...because other people were laughing.

 

Yes...I feel the same way I'm laughing because the other one is laughing...it's contagious

i think you should spend more time on reading cartoons and watch anime so you will understand them. I'm sure you will love it like us.

anyway, western cartoon sucks, go for japanese cartoons.

Anime is good for people who like it and appreciate it. I love anime

 

I find parts of anime funny because in cetain characters the character will really overreact, i find that makes me laugh, the reactions to some simple things.

 

Probably a joke from a previous episode, you'd have to have watched the whole series to understand etc.

 

I went to a LAN party one time and there were two very weird looking people sitting behind me watching anime the whole time. They offered me free downloads but I think I'd rather stab my eyes with a fork than watch that junk. It just looked soo boring. I can't get into it.

 

Personally I can't enjoy Anime as it is.. but still some of it really mesmerize me... I enjoyed Death Note and Elven Lied but believe me those are not funny at all, especially the last one... who have watched them can prove it

 

I like very much Anime cartoons and some of them are really funny.
