    Hi All,

Why do domain name registrars charge more to keep registration data of domain names private.

Like I have seen on a lot of websites, if a domain name costs $10 per annum then for private registration it takes $20 to keep the data private.

Donno why they keep it like this.

It depends on a registrar. I use ResellerClub at which whois privacy is free. And Moniker charges just $4 per domain name.

I was gonna say if you were from Canada and bought a .ca domain name, it's included in the CIRA agreement. Why do any providers charge for an extra feature? It's an upsell, probably how they make a nice chunk of their profits. I'm personally not sure if the registrars themselves are subject to additional fees when making a domains whois private, but if they are, then it means they are passing down that charge to the customer.

You're right, and I think they're not paying for it - it's very primitive service which any registrar is able to set up and maintain. That's why ResellerClub can keep this service free.
