why do people volunteer for paid directories

My question is why do people want to be volunteer for a paid directory. I mean, these large directories are charge about 39 dollars per listing, and a volunteer added and does all the criteria work to approve it for free.

What do the volunteers get out the deal.

i think that there are many people volenteering and getting there link submitted to the directory and they submit some websites that are in there category then forget about going back to do some work on the category.

I get nothing for my work in JoeAnt.com. That's why we are called volunteers, otherwise we would be employees :D
