Why do people use WP for CMS

Why do people sometimes tell me that they can build sites that are not even blogs with WP? I used WP before and it does not seem as powerful as Joomla or even Drupal. Why do people tell me that WP can be used for these kinds of sites?

Does anyone have example of nice WP sites that are not use for blogs that they can show me?

Wola. First Link on Google with 'Wordpress Sites' and I hit the Jackpot.

    http://www.ndesign-studio.com/blog/wordpress/best-wordpress-sites/

Read his explanation, and check the links he provides. You'll get the idea of the level of customisation that can be achieved via Wordpress, as the code is totally Hand Typed, there is more ease of changing it. Its a simple HTML Website, you can say. Other CMS automate alot of functions, so it becomes difficult for some users to actually interpret the code going on.

Personally, I have tried to use Joomla and other CMS but I like the simplicity of Wordpress. Its nice to have a basic platform and to build off of that to what you want your website to be. I dont like more complex systems because they are just that, complex. Sometimes you do not need all the features they have and people will try to get rid of features and it turns into a big mess. So I prefer to have nothing and build on that than to have everything and have to get rid of things in order to have the site I want.

I agree. I've got a few 'CMS' sites running on fully tweaked WP installs. When all you need is categorized pages and posts, WP iz da oompaloompa.

It takes quite a bit of customization to make wordpress a CMS, but Ive used it as one for about 3 review/rating sites. I love wordpress and I know how to modify it, use it, and what plugins to use, so I felt it was a good idea to use them for CMS instead of learning something else.

besides i have fantastico so i could play around with a bunch of others like drupal, joomla, and let me say, all the rest in the admin panel were confusing, dull, and looked to be hard to learn compared to wordpress. It only took about a few minutes of looking at each one to know wordpress is the best.

Joomla or Drupal are way more powerful for CMS applications. But they are way too complicated for many CMS needs. That's why wordpress rules for simple CMS applications

I like that Wordpress is such a simple, highly customizable system. It's good for building off of when you want a custom CMS. For small & unique, I'd go with WP. for larget scale projects, I'd go with a different system.

You can feature a static page on the homepage, so it doesn't appear as a blog.
