I am a teenager but definately do not use any kind of that speak in professional places like when designing websites, writing articles, posting on forums such as this one, and these kind of areas. The only time I use "1337" speak is when I am on my cell phone, Or for a while if I have to type one handed because my other is broken (Couple weeks ago You might have noticed me using those kinds of words for that reason)
Yes I have also use short words but only when chatting with my friends. When I have send professional emails (like Work status report) to my clients then always use exact word without using any short words.
doesn't make any difference for me, "time is money" and if you can innovate some ways to save your time. i appreciate it ... it is similar matter of using linux and windows ... both are good but what matters is user friendly...
They use shortcuts to save time and space. Especially on cell phone text messaging, some cell phone units has character limit, if you type long words you might not be able to type your whole message.
