Why do people think marketing is just advertising?

    Hi Forum,

This isn't actually a question I am posing, rather a response that I created.

I see here, on this site, in particular, questions of this nature soooooooo often. People want to know how to best (ick, I hate the word best) promote their wears.

    My response!

Advertising is an important aspect of marketing, so people tend to think that marketing itself is advertising.

But I agree with you, marketing goes beyond that.

Yes,many people think marketing is just advertising though it is actually one ofthe components of the word. I think advertising is the easiest to implement when it comes to marketing and that also brings immediate results. Branding, promotion etc are often have term effects and more gradual.

Marketing and Advertising are completely different concepts.

Marketing is all about finding a product or a service that meets the needs of the customer. You should visualise your consumer and target market screaming "MEET MY NEEDS".

Advertising - This basically is going to involve getting your message out there. Getting your message across to the audience. Advertising is a powerful medium in itself as there are so many ways to advertise these days. So I think both concepts are completely different.

Advertising is NOT easy to implement UNLESS you have a brilliant product.

I can see how people who aren't in the business easily confuse the two.

    Good explanation, though.
