Why do people strikethrough text?

I see a lot of times on posts, people strikethrough text (line it out). Why? Is there an SEO benefit for not deleting text and just lining it out instead?

well I suppose theoretically its still there to be seen by the SE but personally I woudl have thought it would put the actual person looking at the site off

The only time i see this would be people posting MP3's and then saying "removed at owners request" etc.... There is no real use apart from visual i imagine.

Really, it's used for proper editing of content if your big into authoring; I don't think it's aimed towards search engines to much.
