I use google, and sometimes even Yahoo, I think the main reason Yahoo is still around because it is older then google, so I'm guessing many of the older computer users are just used to it.. but I think you can sometimes find more in yahoo, depends on what your looking for though.

I use yahoo for emails and news. I love the way everything is organized on the site.

Plus, in terms of non-internet advertising dollars... Yahoo markets itself as a place to go much better than Google does. Advertising works.

    I also use google.

But just to tell you, Yahoo's results are way more less junky and spammy than google.

You will often see youtube, blogspot and torrent pages ranked well with junk or no info .. but yahoo displays better results for most queries. Even I am hardcore user of google, but I'd say Google is overrated .. at least now a days, its displaying very low quality "relevant" results.

That's true, torrent and warez sites seem to come up quite frequently on google.
Relevance certainly does seem to be an issue.

    yahoo is good..

I think their image search is great...

some times I even use the general search...

but the groups feature on yahoo out performs the google one imo..

also yeah in asian yahoo is very very popular..

peopel want more then just one option...the world would suck if their was just one search engine...we NEED more!!!!!!

For me, I still use yahoo because there are some things that I couldnt find in Google.

Many believes that they found the secret in ranking higher in Google but not in Yahoo.

Yahoo offers certain services that people want that google only recently started offering like email and the hugely popular yahoo answers which

(google answers couldn't touch) and so when they use those services they search there as well. (my opinion of course) For search Google is king to me and most of the world. something the g-bashers have to agree on.

I have primarily used Google for searching, but am growing more and more disappointed. So many times I search for information in Google and the top sites that are returned have information that is 5 or more years old and no longer relevant. I think Yahoo is now a very reliable search engine and should be used in conjunction with Google to find the best information.

    2 things

#1 A lot of people are just used to using Yahoo.com - it's been their home page for a long time and they see no reason to change.

#2 I'm not so sure that Google really has more relevant results. In fact I think they are getting worse. They are trying to get too cute with the "nofollow" stuff and the discounting paid links stuff. I think it's all backfiring on them. They need to do less trying to control the internet and more just doing their job (displaying the most relevant websites.) They are particularly bad when it comes to adult themed searches.

I occasionally use Yahoo! if I'm already there to play the multiplayer pool game they have!

    It's addicting :)

Yes, but Zibblu, the whole point about using the nofollow tag, and discounting paid is IS to to try and keep a hold on relevant links.
People purchasing high pagerank links for crappy little sites, that's just trying to bring their irrelevant site to the top of the rankings.

Some people still have Yahoo set as their default search engine on their browser...

Many people still use Yahoo. Yahoo is still the top 3 websites in the world. Yahoo provides people with a lot of content: news, games, email..

Since Google has released some new objectives and search parameters that will feed off of your previous searches then some heavy Google users may be taking a second look at Yahoo.

I should have caught that thread bump myself Katrina. It would appear that the age old Google and Yahoo debate still rages on and on and will continue for some time still.
