It will NEVER be a fact that google produces better search results. Sometimes Yahoo is more relevant, and for some terms, Google is more relevant. Neither search is factually better than the other. It is all a matter of OPINION. As many people in this thread have stated, they feel that Yahoo search is better than Google search. Simple as that.
Last update in Google really seemed to sux. People with very little content on pages seem to be able to get high rankings, also domain name seems to have much bigger impact. Still to me I use G, maybe because the traffic levels it provides my sites are so much more. It does seem to give me the best results most of the time. Just these shitty sites after last update really kills me. Theres always the back button and out of the top 5 listing I always find some site that is decent. Yahoo results seem way less spammy but just big player sites come up and really results aren't that good. They both seem to be going down a bit. As always I just wait for the next algo update and see what twists and turns come up next time.
I kind of agree. I have a one page website which is now ranking very high in google, I get around 50 visits a day to this site, which has no more than 500 words on it. It ranks a lot higher than many of the other, much larger sites which are fairly similar. Not toooooo hot in my opinion.
True... Most of us have yahoo mails, i for example use it, and Yahoo messenger... and sometimes i use their search engine, as google is too comerical...
No doubt google is better SE. However, many people have my.yahoo.com as homepage and therefore use it also per convenience for searching. __________________ http://photo4u.awardspace.com/
The question is too broad and I agree with most of the answers. People use Yahoo because it has content: Fantasy football, health, travel, autos. Beside Email, address book, and calendar which are heavily used. If you are asking why people still use Yahoo SEARCH (implying you mean instead of Google), I'd answer because they are essentially the same. I've found more variation between the GooHoo search experience and Ask or MSN so people doing research should switch between those engines and start with Yahoo or Google.
I have seen computers at a local repair shop: 90% of computer newbies have either yahoo toolbar or instant messenger.
Google is a search engine, but Yahoo is a home page. I use google when I want to search for something, but it's fairly boring by itself. I like the news, videos, etc that are linked from Yahoo.
I think Live Search is better than Yahoo... and yes Live Search is improving while Yahoo is not doing anything to improve their search...
Yahoo is popular in Europe, but google is popular in America, most people in my country would like to use Baidu.com,In fact, baidu provide much more info than google.
Traffic does still come from Yahoo for me, and on all of my keywords I am the first result, vs third or so on Google. So maybe I am biased ; )
I agree, Yahoo mail service was between the firsts and they have more registered users worldwide than other companies.
I prefer yahoomail than gmail, I'm using YIM and not google chat, but I only use google whenever I need to "google" for something
Yahoo just displays better results well for the moment, it ranks way above google in my view. But the fact of the matter is, any good webmaster would try and rank high in both yahoo & google.
Yahoo has been around longer, search engine results quality is open to interpretation, the search isn't the main part of yahoo but it is there so people use it. People mainly use Yahoo because of messenger / mail / geocities and its directory aspect etc.
