Yahoo was my homepage because of its news feeds. Soon i found some news aggregator and then on i removed yahoo
Its often peoples opinion on which is better hence the market share is not totally one sided. Also, some people are so use to using one they find it difficult ot use another. Its a bit like people find it difficult to change their supermarkets.
Yes, I still use Yahoo. Alot of people do, and more do world wide. Google's main user base is USA and UK imo.
thats what i would like to say you. he saved my time people usually open yahoo.com to click on "Mail" link and if they found good one story or image they usually read that too... i noticed many times, when my freinds doing same thing... and they wont be care of at where they searching atleast 34% people...
From my experience, yahoo has a better market share in many asian countries. Even though Yahoo is American, its market share here is minimal compared to what it enjoys in, lets say, India.
Personally, I think in a lot of cases, its as simple as if people's default homepage is set to yahoo, a lot of people are lazy and don't like to change. They just never bother to change it. My 2 cents.
I think most people use yahoo because of the way the website is presented. Its got lots of content and it also has the advantage of a built in audience due to its many years of advantage over google.
I mainly use google, but often will turn to yahoo, or dogpile, or any number of other engines if I am not finding what i need. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but you get different sites with each engine/portal.
I have the same question about AOL, but the answer is probably going to be the same. Some people simply like it.
I think Yahoo has a better image search than Google. It gives you more images on what you are looking for.
You do realize Google and Yahoo once worked together, and Yahoo has some bits of classic Google code, right? I think it was better back then...I use Google mostly, but Yahoo is useful too, as it is actually more popular according to Alexa than Google, so I try to get indexed in Yahoo as much as I do in Google..and it's easier.
Relevant search results are better for some topics. Plus, most people do not care about spot on relvancy for 95% of their searches. I don't. Half the time I am just looking for something close. Having Yahoo as a portal appeals to me. If I am searching for a technical term or I don't find what I want in yahoo I then go to google.
I also use both and I try to index my sites in both search engines, but yahoo I don't really understand how to rank high
Ummm Time on site Yahoo 30 minutes Google 6 minutes Yahoo has been winning this war for years. Yahoo # 1 traffic site Yahoo is a destination Google is just a search engine, with many people chipping away at the giant.
One thing I noticed about Google - which I use most - is that it's "one box" frequently displays irrelevant results. Between that box and the sponsored ad at page top, the first page of results doesn't always yield a lot of results to begin with.
Well usually if I cant find what I am looking for in google in the top 20 searches, I head over to yahoo to check if I can find it there.
i think the reason is simple and his users is knows that its service is so good thats why they use more then any site
