Link exchange is very time consuming. You might want to try submitting to directories instead.

Do directlys actually get you much traffic to your site though?

    Thanks,
    John

I'm wondering the same thing...with such
a high rate of people removing your link
after the agreement has been set...it
appears to be a waste of time and energy.

Are one-way links the best way to go?

To be honest, I don't exchange links any more. This is only because it's more hassle than it's worth. Generating backlinks on forums/blogs/articles etc is so much easier and it's 1 way too! Less outlinks * more inlinks = higher search engine position.

    lol, good point mentioned :)
After reading this i probably too will stop searching for exchanges...

BTW: about nofollow - just in case some one don't know this, i found handy mozilla add-on DoNoFollow. When plug-in is on, highlights links in different colours follow and nofollow. No need to go to page souce. Saves a lot of time while checking.

Be clear with the things before trading the links. Mention them that their link will be live till your 's will be live on their site.

In most cases if the site is sold then the new owner removes all links. And i agree with the new owner if he doesn't want a bunch of links on his front page and want to build backlinks through another way.

Yeah the Firefox Dofollow addon is a good tool, I don't use it though because it makes the page look untidy and takes my attention away from what I'm actually doing. I don't even check for Nofollow, I just post and hope for the best! I can manage about 250 backlinks/day so I just assume that at least 200 of them will be Dofollow.

Are people still exchanging links these days? I thought that Google were pretty clear reciprocal linking was frowned upon?

Yeah that's a good way to keep track, suppose I should have done that in the first place. I don't have outbound links any more, but if I ever come to have them again, I'll not be lazy and keep a spreadsheet.

Because link exchanges suck. I stopped even responding to people requesting a link exchange months ago. It's mostly noobs anyway looking for a way to beat the system. I have even seen people post threads about doing it like it is some big technique to build back links.
Rest in the comfort that their website and blog is so weak that the only way they can get any links is to lie, trick and steal them.

You shouldn't be mad at them, you should feel sad for them.

This is why i don't bother with link exchanges... the value isn't all that great and nobody is honest these days.

Trading links makes no sense. Buy your links. Pay for a full year or month by month.
