The title say it all. Why would someone go through the trouble of registering for a forum account and never make a single post? They can't be spammers... unless there are terrible at their job. So please someone answer this question. I have at least on legit sign up on my forum daily yet no one makes posts or replies.
Maybe they have only want to join the forum or they had already joined the forum and then they end up not liking the forum rules or the content of the forum.
Personally, I'm not an overly "chatty" person. I'm a workaholic and don't want to have to take time just chatting on forums. I did have one forum that I frequented a lot, posted a lot (mainly helping other people when I could), but that forum is not as good as it used to be and I rarely visit there now. I see that I actually joined this forum back in 2007, but then forgot about it and have only just rediscovered it! Hopefully, it may take the place of the other forum I attended!!! Others may simply be here to watch and learn and have nothing to say themselves.
Momentum or traction, if you join a forum and see no one else chatting you wont post either, you need to make a few profiles and talk to yourself (or get friends to do it) and then lurkers will start coming out of the woodwork
I get that if no one is talking then no one will post but this is what happens Guest visits forum guest becomes member guest never signs in again no spamming attempts at all
Hi, It's because they still get links on their profiles. When they sign up and fill all the information including the "about me" and "website" section, they leave their link.
Yes I would look into this. They don't need to post if they can add a profile link. It's actually bots and not real people who are creating these spam accounts.
This makes complete sense... but that is actually how i judge to see if they are spammers or not. they don't have any links in there profile. Their profile in no way links to any other website. no links, no posts, nothing just a sign up with basic information
a) they like your site and want to feel "being part of it" b) they are spam bots waiting to "be part of it"
Some people (myself include), find a great forum and just read through the threads without actually posting anything... I was visiting this site for well over 2 years before i even started posting anything... I just used to read people posts and found it informative and inspiring.
It can be many reasons like not liking forum rules, signed up for a link but your forum doesn`t allow it (may be), As no one is participating they don`t think it`s worthy to be here. I think a forum needs to be popular intially then people will post like this Forum is going on.
I don't think it is very weird.I think it depends on the purpose of signing up. There are forums which I just signup but did not post because all the questions are answered by good post. As you can see that there are always recurring questions all the time, so I don't think I have to post unless it is a very specific question. For this forum's case then it is different
Forum discussion board are the very good platform to express your views to member to related topic. I think, Everyone need to participate the forum.
Profile link and only wish to sign up set their profile up with their site/blog, twitter etc and leave - may be bots or genuine you never know. I have joined a few forums where I have signed up but not added any information or posts yet as I am there as just a reader and had nothing to give. You never know what these people are doing but it is more than likely a profile backlink.
There are few type of member that register but never post 1. Profile link builder, as know as paul and angela links 2. member who only register to read the post 3. The member found that the forum is not attracted enough after register 4. The forum is not active enough, the thread is boring etc
