Why do people buy SEO services for their sites over and over again site after site, month after month paying money for the same information which if they knew to begin with they could do themselves for free. Is SEO really that hard to grasp and use for yourself? Or does it involve specialized grunt labor that webmasters cannot handle? I'm concerned myself because firstly I know next to nothing about SEO and want to learn all that I can learn and secondly SEO services are quite pricey so if I did learn this niche it would save me a lot of money that I don't want to throw away in the first place!

SEO is not always pricey. You can outsource to companies overseas as our own, for about 100$ a month. For business sites it is always provide the highest ROI for your investment dollars
I have a friend who spent a lot on outsourcing SEO, but his website is still not getting the amount of traffic we had expected. I don't know if it's skill, or luck.
I think the simple reason why people pay for it is that most SEO work is boring, very time consuming gruntwork. Onpage optimization is something that doesn't take long, but the process of link building is slow and takes quite a time...so why not outsource it ? It's not always wise to do things yourself, even if you know how to do them. Focus on your strength and let other do the things your aren't an expert at, don't try to be a jack of all trades.
SEO can get pretty boring and time consuming. if it's not what you do best, might as well outsource it so you can concentrate on other profit producing activities.

not everyone got a knowledge of internet or even computer. also it's time saving or even money saving if you hire the right perosn to do it for you.
If you want results, you need to either have deep pockets or have lot of time. If you serious about your site, and your aiming for very competitive keywords, a one man team isn't going to work out. A good SEO team already specializes in the do's and dont's and knows how to be time efficent. Not only that, but for competitive keywords, it will literally take 600 or so hours of work. If you are capable of dedicating 600 hours to save a couple hundred bucks then good for you. But when you hire a SEO team, they have 3-5 people working on your site, and getting the job done 5x-7x quicker then you are.
Wackiest comment I've heard. If your trying to rank the page for a keyword with 60 million competitors, a minute isn't going to cut it. Plus the majority of SEO is off-site.
to work on bigger projects or new projects or maybe ppc or advertising, or retire, many reasons but i think its more from being busy than lazy, or just being smart if you have good roi from your site
