Why do people buy new cars when they lose like 4000 as soon as you leave the lot?

Some people require the ego boost that owning a new vehilcle gives.I drive a Mercedes and a Hummer. The 1st was 2 years old when I purchased it and I saved $21,000 from the original price. The 2nd was 3 years old,I saved $34,000.That's a total of $55,000 I saved from the original purchase price. Both vehicles had low mileage, both run great and look new.

Cuz nobody is interested in driving crappy old vehicles ...

Old cars may cost more to do service repairs and fuel consumption is larger then the new models

I prefer any time a new car to and old car
Of course buying a 1-3 years used car is a good deal but buying a crappy 12-15 years car is not a good deal especialy if you then go and pride yourself with that crap car ...

Because some people pride themselves in having nicer things. Having nicer things normally comes at a premium. Value is a perception. A transaction takes place when the consumer feels that they are getting equal to or greater than value for money.

It's just a matter of preference and budget.

Think about it, if people stop buying new cars, would there be any used car? It's a mutually related cycle.

If I can afford a new car, I'll get a new car. A new car ensures quality and top notch condition. Old cars may require service more often.
If I need a car and can't afford to buy a new one, I'll buy a used car.
