Why do people blog?

Hi everyone. I am doing a paper in college about "blogging". At this point in my research about blogging, my focus is more of the history of blogging and how it has become such a popular method of communication. My focus question at this point in time is...

What is so attractive about blogging that it has become a sociological icon in our present time? In other words, why do people blog?

Can I hear your thoughts from you expert bloggers?

Also, I would like to interview some blogging experts here in the near future. Would any experts be interested in being interviewed or can you refer any experts to me?

    So please share your thoughts.

People blog about their life, hobbies and interests, some people blog to market a product or service, and some blog because they can earn a small income from it.

I'd be happy to be interviewed - I'm a travel blogger of 16 months.

People like to talk and they like to be heard. Blogging has created a medium that allows virtuallly anyone to put their thoughts out there for anyone else to read in whatever fashion they choose. Many people have always kept journals about all kinds of things but only on a rare occassion would those thoughts ever get published. Now, all it takes is a few minutes and an internet connection and viola, we're all editors/publishers.

I've always thought I should be a radio host so I could share my opinions with the world. Blogging allows me to do it without having to work my way into broadcasting.

Blogging affords people the opportunity to let their voice be heard. It's also one of the easiest ways to build a website, as there are many free blog hosts out there and even installing a blog on a hosting account doesn't require much knowledge these days.

Blogging is just a new way for people to communicate. Many people let our their feelings, opinions, and knowledge through this way. (I hope nobody has said this yet)

I like to blog because I get so stressed out easily and it is a way for me to vent some of it off or just talk randomly... It's also a way for me to express who I am since I'm not a very social person... I'm more friendly in writing than in actual meeting :)

Any new fad, when it reaches a certain critical mass, will explode exponentially and become a phenomenon.

The same thing happened to social networks, podcasting, video sharing, etc.

Blogging or web logging had been around for a long time. It's only when it was made automated, easy and user-friendly did it start to pick up. Add to that the buzz factor, exploiting people's tendencies of self-promotion and personal articulation and other political issues got involved into this such as the benefits blogging gave to freedom of expression, then you have yourself a phenomenon.

"There is no force greater than an idea whose time has come."

It is very interesting to see the reaction you get when putting "your story" out there, and have people read it. The reactions you get are crazy.
I blog to just keep track of my life.

Different people have different reasons to blog. Normally, people treat their blogs as their online diary. So they can rant on it, and share their lifestyle with the blog. There are some bloggers that blogs for money too. Usually blogs that is used to make money aren't blog about their own life. They are mainly about tech, entertainment, etc.
