Why do pages within a website drop PR?

    Hi guys,

    Not made a topic in here for a while but this is just a quick one:

    I run a website that is currently pr3 which is fine, the pages within the website e.g. /page1/ also had pr3 but for some reason over the past 2 weeks they have dropped to pr1.

    The homepage of the site has still kept it's pagerank (3) but i was wondering why do pages lose pagerank, how can i keep these other pages at pr3.

    Thanks in advance, Alan ;)

    Usually internal pages have lower pr, unless they have direct external links. So for example if the home page links page1 and page1 links page2, you would have

    home pr3 -> page1 pr2 -> page2 pr1

    It's just an hint, that's not exactly like this, but for my sites it is almost always like this. If you want higer pr for internal pages, get direct link to those pages

    PS: I would suggest you to focus on ranking, much more important that PR!!!

    if a page a low pr, it means that it has low and not strong backlinks.

    there is only one criteria for the pr . it's getting backlinks from high pr web sites

    yes but i already had pr3 for most internal pages within the website, at least the main sub pages anyway, this stayed pr3 for about 2 months and all of a sudden has dropped, i've heard from others that there is a pr update going on at the moment pr will resume to normal in a short while, not sure how true this is though

    My site is the same, i wouldnt worry in my case I have hundreds or thousands or pages under categories, the categories rank but only a select few individual pages have rank but they all contribute in their own way to the sites rank.
