Adwords users are bidding less on the keywords that trigger the ads on your site would be my guess.

I am also seeing much less earning nowadays. From adwords forus, cpc for them is going up, yet earning for publisher keep going down.

Your ads are not well targeted. Plus, your payout decreases when smartpricing hits your site.

If someone clicks an Adsense ad, goes to the advertiser website, and promptly clicks the back button (to return to your website), you are going to get hit with smartpricing.

The content on the web page needs to support the ads you are showing. The ads then become a natural next step to find more information about what the visitor is interested in seeing.

This is really hard to do in a forum.

Is that how smartpricing works? I never heard someone mention this before, but it kinda makes sense. But what then about people like me who like to open ads in a new window?

I'm sure smart pricing for AdSense has less to do with people clicking back and more to do with leads and conversions (as setup by the advertiser with tracking leads and conversions in AdWords) - if the clicks on your site convert to LEADS or CONVERSIONS for the advertiser, Google adjust the price the advertiser has to pay for their ad on your site, which makes far, far more sense, to me.

Example: An advertisers maximum bid is $5.00 - on site's that converts clicks into leads or sales quite well, ie. a relevant and targetted site, the advertiser would be paying far more for a click on that site then say, a less relevant site which displays the advert because of a slight mention in the content, which doesn't convert well into leads or sales for the advertiser, thus the site owner of this one would be lucky to get .10-.20 cents for the click, while the relevant and targetted site owner may get as much as $1-2.

The moral of the story is to create individual pages that are highly relevant and targetted so the most relevant adverts are dished up, thus providing the best conversions for the advertisers, thus maximizing what your clicks are worth.

I'd say a lot more is in the publishers control over the CPC's then some people think.

If your site is on 'depression treatments' - make sure the content talks about the BENEFITS of GETTING treatment and even mention that it's good to find websites with mailing lists and such to sign-up to. There's a high chance the visitor will click one of the ads to a website dealing with depression treatment, and then there's even more of a chance they will sign-up to anything once they get there, thus a lead, and your CPC's rise.

I'm starting to work on the premise that a HIGH CTR is more then likely a *bad* thing in most cases as the users are just clicking right away before you've told them what to do, or they're clicking thinking it's part of your content, and the BEST way to MAXIMIZE your earnings is to drive ONLY the users on a mission planted in their head by YOU to the Google Ads. If an advertiser is bidding £5.00 per click, you want to have as much as that as possible by converting for them, not sending them irrelevant clicks which just drive your CPC down.

But 1 cents or less per click is simply too ridiculous.

Yes.It does make sense. If implemented well, such a system can weed out click frauds and junk sites to a great extent.

Even my earnings seem affected . Yesterday was one of the worst I have had in a month. Most clicks seem to have given 1, 2, 3, 4 cents.

A possible drawback to this smart pricing may be that an adsense publisher may have to pay the price for a badly designed adwords campaign. I have seen so many cases where the content of a site may be of far inferior quality than as presented by the ad .Sometimes the ads seems misleading. Such cases will automatically bring down the conversion rates and thus the cost of the adwords campaign compared to what it was earlier.

Smart pricing is slightly biased towards adwords.... adsense publishers AS A GROUP will see a drop in earnings .

Visit some of the advertisers pages that they're trying to drive clicks to RaGEZONE, see what they're trying to achieve - is it a sign-up or a sale?

Then you can let your visitors know, through your content, what would be a good idea for them to do.

I don't just mean 'Click a Google Ad then sign-up or buy sometheing' - you have to suggest to the reader and guide them into thinking what would be a good idea for them to do given the benefits you just described. And where can they go for that? Um, them there adverts.

Yep, well it just means the easy ride isn't so easy now, that's all. Instead of just sending any bunk clicks to advertisers we have to send clicks that convert.

This isn't hard to do it just means no 'junk' content that's just based on a subject - it means suggestive content with an idea planted in the readers mind to find the resource they now need and to do on that resource what they also now need to do, now that it's been 'suggested' by.. well me and you. That's how to stop our click prices falling as AdSense publishers, and how to maximize them infact! :)

CTR is becoming extremely irrelevant in maximizing AdSense earnings.

Suggestive content with clever ad placement is the future, and the future is now! He he.

Thats quite a site you have there... you should be able to do VERY well with that much traffic...

Try the inline banner mod that places the code after the first post...

Almost everyone I know that owns an entertainment forum is complaining about the drops in adsense revenue recently.

I personally dont think there are any tricks that can keep you earning top dollar for a given gaming or entertainment niche. Advertisers just aren't paying that much for those ads anymore and no amount of adsense optimization is going to make them up their per click payments if they dont have to. It's easier to just make you work harder for their dollar. Simple economics.

Of course thats just my opinion.

Your site sure gets a lot of users .319 users active when I checked ..That beat DP's 279 :p

With that kind of traffic you deserve more than 4$s a day :). If adsense doesnt work , do keep your options open ..maybe affilaite marketing or something.
