Why does Anything written on this forum rank so incredibly well? I'm always running into threads from here when searching. Are there just a ridiculous number of BLs pointing to DP or something?
DP offers lots of free tools. Good way to get incoming links. And since the tools Shawn provides aren't your everyday tools (and they work really well), DP receives links from authority type sites. That's how they got links in the beginning. But now, it's grown into such a great resource, that everyone links to it because of the amount of good information that flows threw these forums.
if I got some .edu links to my site, would they be worth a lot more than others, because they are authority sites?
I think that would be kind of hard. But yes it would be worth it. If only i could find some way of buying a .edu or a .gov lol
Oh my gosh I would love that... Links from .edu's make a massive difference. But I couldn't put it any better than Voasi - dp Is a fantastic resource... That's why it ranks.
Im sandboxed on one of my sites, and DP threads rank ahead of many of my main keywords (for that sites own friggen name) rofl.
Probably has something to do with it since we don't ask for links, but we seem to get a ton. digitalpoint.com was PR7 when I first heard the term SEO, PageRank or knew that people even traded links. Yahoo shows 4,660,000 links to some page within digitalpoint.com... [search=yahoo]linkdomain:digitalpoint.com[/search] Including 945 .EDUs (since someone mentioned that here)... [search=yahoo]linkdomain:digitalpoint.com inurl:edu[/search]
That is incredible.... I couldn't think of a better way to become an authority to the web, nice work Shawn!
I'm not so sure .edu links are any better than other links... at least not directly. But .edu domains tend to be old domains with lots of links pointing to them, so...
DP has thousands and thousands of pages itself . I read somewhere that such large amount of pages can boost the PR of Home page. How effective is size of a site in increasing PR of home page.. ? (Assuming all of them link to the home page)
You can't magically boost PageRank by generating a zillion pages. But if you have tons of useful stuff, more people will link to some random page of yours, so it would work in that regard (if you can get people linking to your pages naturally). PageRank is based on the links to the page, so if you link page A to page B, then page B links back to page A (I'm assuming that's what you are talking about with having a large number of pages), page B will not be able to pass back more PageRank than it received from Page A (assuming no other pages link to Page B).
This forum is just plain good and that's why folks link to it. It's amazing how many links a site will get when it offers information people are looking for and not asking (begging) for return links for their services. Great job DP. An example of how to do it the right way.
Even if a page has no back links , it should have some weight and if 100000 such pages link to home page of my site..it should have some effect on the home page's PR. I will quote Peter Kent (http://www.ichannelservices.com/ )
Google's only going to see a page when it has a link to it already though, so the PageRank would be "born" form the PageRank passed to it.
What the heck??!! There are 36 education sites linking to one of my video game sites!! I never knew Nintendo games were so educational!!
Also check out the page title in all the DP threads - it matches the subject of the thread. I find this is key to getting pages listed hig in SE's, if all the titles were just "Digital point forums" then the SE's ability to find the subject matter of the page would be lower.
Is there any way to get .edu links? May be exchanges or anything? BTW, sorry for a little offtopic, but can anyone just register a .edu domain?
