Why do DMOZ editors waste so much time?

There are a few who post here semi-regularly (or used to) who certainly do it as a hobby - ask Compostannie or brizzie, as examples. As for your inability to see the fun in it, that's why it's not your hobby, no? One man's hobby is another man's drudgery.

YES! Believe it or not a lot of us, myself included, joined DMOZ as editors before Google even existed. That's before SEO and PR boosts and all that rubbish. And for the record, I don't believe my time has been wasted. ;)

    Once again, minstrel speaks truth.

For some yes, forums are what they like. I prefer editing and I learn a lot more that way. It's called diversity.

For the same reason you don't just throw out your computer and read books instead. We're all free to spend our time as we like. You like forums, I like editing. I don't have a problem with your fondness of forums. Do you have a problem with my fondness of editing?

K your right. I had no right to judge someone else's hobby.

I guess reading so much conspiracy talk about DMOZ editor's listing there own sites listed or their friends sites made me think that the majority of DMOZ editors do this because of this. You can't blame me for that since almost every forum about DMOZ I go to has at least one person complaining.

Like any other organization, there always going to be those who are corrupt and those who stay moral. I just really do hope your one of the honest ones.

    Cheers

There could be a good reason for that. Imagine for a moment, I asked you the same old question 50 times? Would you give me the same old answers each tme?

No, to be fair DMOZ did not forget about you, we lost you in the crash fair and square. Bwahahahaha :D

oops, I mean, unfortunately almost all submissions prior to the crash were tragically lost. If your site hasn't been listed and has not been submitted since the recovery you should resubmit. But only once and only if the site is good.

DMOZ doesn't care about how the site looks, it's all about the content. We don't do hot.

You will be shocked to see non working sites making the cut too, its just that if ur lucky you will get your site listed :)

For example look at this : http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Searching/Directories/

look at this site : http://www.re-quest.net/index.htm , i have no idea how to submit my site to that directory, maybe they close submissions but its not a real user friendly site.

Look at http://www.e-lynks.com/ totally looks like spam.

Look at http://www.fetchdog.com/ (lol funny site ).

Its like no one is editing anymore , its too much work i would say. So if u get lucky u get submitted i suppose.

Did it? I hadn't gotten around to checking yet. It's not my site...

BUT did you read the article? OMG, I've stopped buying dogfood and I cook for my dogs now. That's just wrong!

ADDED: LOL @ pctec, you didn't offend me and even if you did I wouldn't hold it against your site submission. That site isn't mine, I just think people should know what they're feeding their beloved animal companions. That site is totally unrelated to me.

    Quotes by compostannie...

"DMOZ doesn't care about how the site looks, it's all about the content. We don't do hot."

"Although I do believe you when you say you don't spend 24 hours a day working on your site. I looked at it. Maybe you should spend just a little more time working on it and less time complaining about what other people do with their free time."

By the way... I had a Siberian Husky a couple years ago. She ate your middle of the road dog food plus all of our table scraps and she lived a good long life. She did die of cancer though... coincidence???

Meaning content. Specifically, affiliate content in your case but I don't want to get into a flame war with you over it. ;)

The table scraps probably did her a world of good. My husky's always got top of the line dog food. According to that article, even that has disgusting ingredients. I don't know if the cancer is related to your husky's diet but it makes you wonder, sorry to hear about your loss. How old was she?

Im not sure what you mean by affiliate content. The only thing I ever had was adsense when I first started the site. If you are refering to the isafesite logo, I get nothing from that. As a matter of fact, their site gets more out of it that I because they get a backlink from me. At any rate...

I never wanted a flamewar... I just stated my opinion... some people took it harder than they should have.
