I agree 100%. My site was not made for adsense, but those that tell me they are waiting for estimates (most likely from clicking ad's) do come back. I also advertize on msft's prime site, so I know these folks are knowledgeable on the internet and finding services/comparing prices. I do need to stress, any adsense advertising depend on the niche and the particulars of the traffic/ranking. I have a legit biz, not a MFA site. Adsense is just the cherry on top!
I adopt a similar approach here. I don't use adsense on my corporate website. But I do use them on several other smaller sites and they are covering my hosting for all the sites with some change to spare. So, I agree that adsense is the cherry on top. I would have built those sites with or without adsense.
I have found a lot of ecommerce websites put adsense near the bottom. I think this is many times a good idea. If your visitor gets to the end of the page, then it is not likely they will buy anything from you. (I didn't say they wouldn't, just not likely) So why not get the extra revenue?
I operate a credit card comparison website where I earn commissions for every credit card that my users sign up for. These commissions range from $15-$44 for every approved card application. I recently implemented AdSense on this page and because of the high paying keyword "credit cards", each click nets me at least one dollar. I have been averaging 5-10 clicks per day and climbing. Granted I am risking losing potential customers, it hasn't created any negative effect as of yet, and the extra income is nice.
Does your site average a sale per day? If not, how much adsense are you making off those ads...if that is the site in your sig.
I remember being sick and tired of clients and cluttering my homepage full of ads figuring I rather make 1/3rd with clicks and not having to deal with the headaches. Who knows, people also experiment around. They try ads and then just leave them on there out of convenience. But generally speaking, I don't think any business site should have adsense on any of their main pages. It doesn't look professional.
agreed. my site (not business though) has NO ads on the front page. nearly everyone linking to me links to the front page, and it's nice to leave an impression that NO ADS!
Yes I do average more than one sale per day. My daily AdSense earnings on that page are up to about 10 dollars per day. Like I said they continue to increase ever since I put AdSense on that page about a month ago.
I put adsense on my web design site because I don't care about selling web design any more. Its just a matter what makes the most profit, adsense might make the most profit, or the most profit with the least amount of work. Like the adsense on the web design site makes like a 1/3 of what selling one decent website would bring in, But I would actually have to build the website and deal with clients to get paid that way. With adsense I do nothing.
