I have been noticing sites that sell their services also use google adsense? Isn't that giving your visitors away to competition? I can understand the competitive filters, but still, why don't they use that space to advertise other things?
I believe it's a good idea for a business to supplement some income thru Adsense on pages that are about a topic similar to their services, but not directly about what they offer themselves. Example: a web design company that doesn't provide seo services could add a couple of pages explaining seo a little bit and then add the adsense code advertising those who do.
True, but what about the direct adds on the frontpage of their site: for instance: Content.com uses adsense that displays ads on Unique Content Writing, etc. (Just an example) Isn't that a poor use of adsense?
Depends on where you use it... we run AdSense, but not on pages that retaining the customer has more value than letting them go to another site. For example, no AdSense on this page: http://www.digitalpoint.com/products/isp/
It never makes sense to me to see product websites running PPC ads on their product pages... no sense at all.
Don't mean to change the subject, but MediaHustler your Sig scares me, why would people do something like that??? What a shame...
I made someone mad I told them to fix something on their site in Site Reviews. and I guess he took offense to it. He even PMed me and told me he clicked my ads.
Yeah, I agree with your observation. There is no point to display ads on your business website unless you don't sell anything. Hopefully, I will manage soon to escape that plight and will develop fresh websites to diplay ads on and which will not sell anything. It's pointless to route your hardly earned traffic to competition.
Businesses that also have Adsense on their page is a baaaaaaaaaad idea. Not only are you providing avenue for a competitor to leech your potential clients, but it also gives me the impression that they're not confident enough about their business that they have to rely on a "back up" source of revenue. It's not very professional IMO.
Maybe it's one of the hired managers making those decisions. Maybe he feels overworked and rather wants to give some business away. There can be many reasons, especially when a business has a bunch of employees. You know the deal, things don't always have to make sense in general, they just have to make sense to the ones who decide to do them in order to get done
I somewhat agree with you but it could also be that they are totally confident in their business and know that the customers will be back because they have the best price/service/whatever. Kind of like saying, go ahead check out the other guys, you will be back because we are the best at what we do.
When I was looking for a new host, I went to a hosting service that had Adsense on it. I left so fast I don't even remember the name of the site. It's just not professional for a site trying to sell something, but maybe it's just me.
I have a service biz in seattle, and I am fortunate enough to rank in the top 10 on all 3 se's for several major "service" keywords. I do not put adsense on pages generating traffic on my "location, keyword" pages, but since I am receiving significant traffic from those not observant enough to notice my location, adsense is a nice bonus. It pays for my office rent and 2 staff. I should mention that I expanded my site to include helpful tips that pertain to my service, and this is the bulk of our adsense income. I also have thoroughly researched the competiton, and we have a better product AND we are less expensive too.
It's all about testing. If the increase in revenue through adsense compensates for the loss in revenue from directing traffic to competitors, then it's worthwhile.
i don't know, they may use adsense but they should never overdo it, just some small textlinks or smth. The page must look 100% pro!.
