When I do a search on google and search link:domain.com I only get 2 links, however when I search link: [space]domain.com I have over 140 links?
    Can anyone explain this?

Just to let you know, Google doesn't show you all of your backlinks. No idea why.

Try Yahoo Site Explorer instead, or some other checker.

Google doesn't want webmasters to be able to get a clear picture of their competition's link profile. So they only show a sample of the links. Use Google webmaster tools to get a better idea of your links with Google. Yahoo's link command will tell you what yahoo has.

When you use "link:domain.com" in Google, they return the number of inbound links to that domain or what they want to report. If the "domain.com" is use in a Hyperlink on a page, it will be reported.

When you use "[space]domain.com" in Google, they return the pages that have that search phrase in it. If the "domain.com" is use as a text string on a page, it will be reported.

google has said the link: command doesn't work as well as it use too.

Google knows more then 2 your backlinks - it avoids showing them on the public where your competitors from the SERP as well

    Hi,

The best kind of backlinks you should try and get are…

    - Targeted hand submission, niche website one-way backlink, i.e. if you have a “Travel” related website.
    - The best thing you can do is get one-way backlinks that are on other “Travel” related websites with useful Google Page Rank.

    Measure of Credibility
The major search engines assume a website with a high number of backlinks is highly credible, more trustworthy, professional and more expert in their niche than other sites.

Every time someone links to your website the search engines counts it as a “vote” for your site and typically moving it up the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS).

    Hope this helps
P.S. I’ll be launching a new one-way backlink service very soon, if you would like more details just PM me.

    All the best - Natfirst
