Why do article writers write for others instead of building their own site

I don't understand this, many people saying about how great it is to have an article written for 5 bucks and then put it on your site to generate adsense income, or traffic, if that's so easy, why are there so many article writers writing for $5 a piece? They should be writing for themselves on their own sites instead of making money for other people

Perhaps they don't know how to make their own site and use Google or YPN.

They might not even know that the articles they are writing for $5 bucks actually will make the person possibly $100's later on.

Same reason people sell businesses that make money, they get the money up front. I buy articles as an investment that they will pay off slowly, but for a long time.

I always wondered the same thing. Perhaps they lack confidence in building a site.

Anyway If I was a good content writer ( I'm not btw :( ), first thing would be to learn seo and internet marketing heavily. Then start bulding massive content sites. ( 1000s of pages )

I'm quite sure there is lot of money to be made from contents.

They enjoy writing, and it's as simple as $5.00 for 10-15 minutes work. Working balls out they could perhaps write 30 articles in a day, that's a clean $150 with no risk. Most writers request the money up-front for work over the Internet.

That ain't bad.. and they don't need to learn any new skills, they already have a decent revenue source that isn't going away and doesn't rely on the search engines.

As web publishers we take the risk and are required to know how to utilize articles effectively that makes us money further down the line.

Writers have it good - if I enjoyed writing I'd be laughing in the current web publishing climate.

Me too I wish I was a good content writer :)

Plus, many article writers already know a bit of SEO, cause many people buying articles require keyword density and stuff, many writers also market that they write keyword rich content, so they must have the idea

Article writing is how I got started in Adsense/affiliate marketing. I had been writing articles for $15 on a site for easy money in my spare time and was wondering why somebody was willing to pay for all these short articles on weird subjects. I started looking around for the end market and found out that I could make way more by making my own site and using my articles there.

Content writers often write about the same topics over and over. So to research and create a new article for you offers no problem. And like people have already said - a bit of quick up front cash also feeds the wallet nicely.

I'll give you my take on it, as I run "article authors", a web content production site. Most of my authors do not have any interest in the business sense of being webmasters..they just want to write. It would be wrong to assume that they know how to market a website, build a website, or even know where to start with a website. Yes, they could research and write a 1000 page article on Polar Bears and Their Natural Predators, but would they know how to market that article along with 25 other similar articles on the same subject?

And as someone said before, these writers are very proficient at doing research. So to them, generating 20 $5 original 250 word articles in 2 hours is a piece of cake for them. Plus they like writing for me as I pay them quickly and have a constant stream of work for them :)

What I don't understand is why more writers don't pay someone to develop a site with a CMS for them.

some people just like to write more, its not such a strange concept. Magazines have done it for years, why don't writers just start their own magazines? same thing to me.

I agree with the many comments made above. Most people don't know how to build their websites, and honestly some may not one to. Some writers may enjoy writing, but may not enjoy the amount of work required in building and maintaining a site.

Besides writing articles for your own website by yourself is difficult and time consuming. Then you have to worry about properly editing the article.

Exactly this is why I stopped writing articles(as soon as I cmae to know about adsense).

Most of the people don't know about adsense and how to use it. Second thing is patience. You can get fast cash writing articles as compared to adsense.

Some "writers" would rather just write and not get caught up in lots of business directions. Others don't know what to do.

    To each his/her own.

this comparison makes no sense, it's the same as saying "writers should never buy a book because they can write for themselves, for free" which was not what i said

I have a friend that write article and sold them on elance.com he sell them from $25 to $75. Its no easy work at all he start hes days as anyone will do he start at 9 am and work until 5 pm everyday he make an average of $200 a day. He had never complained of not making enough or hating hes job. Making a secure $200 a day is better than betting on making it.

Some people can't deal with freedom and/or are not cut out to be self-employed.

In fact, some find they are happiest when they have a "secure" job, although there is no such animal, and do their hobby on the side for extra income.
