Is there a particular reason other than having them handy to dry the dishes? And why do they wear their bedsheets? Can you not buy pyjamas in the Middle East?
<I know I'm going to be sorry I got started on this discussion>...............Loose fitting clothes are cooler to wear. And I imagine that the head wear is also to protect themselves from the elements.
It is partly due to the climate and to avoid sunstroke and for use as a face cover in sandstorms Also the colours and the band that holds it in place are to denote tribal connections and clan markings. A bit like Scottish tartans do and Aran sweaters with their stitching.
I'm a Dutchman, do you know why we wear wooden shoes? TO KEEP THE WOOD PECKERS OFF OUR HEAD............
that cloth which the arabs wear on their head is traditional. It is very obvious how it evolved, i your GK is good enough, then you'd now that Saudi Arabia was basically a desert with hot and humid climate, so people (arabs) started to cover their heads with some sorta cloth and now its a tradition. Also the how you call a 'bedsheet' just proves how ignorant you are. Why dont you ask an arab or better offgoogle or wiki it? And yes, like someone mentioned it above, wearing lose clothes are much more comfortable. ps: if you really wonder if pajamas are not available out there in mid east, then how come you don't wonder that full length cloths for women are available in the West? why are 90% women wearing jeans and shirts and SHORT jeans and SHORT TOPS? not enough cloth available? Why do they wear their bedsheets? if you could answer why to the chicks wear their handkerchiefs (bikinis) ? its probably because the Arabs believe in covering their bodies and the Westerners don't....its THAT EASY
You forget to mention the tribal/clan markings in the colours of certain aspects there Smith15 - though obviously that's a by product and not the main reasoning for th sunstroke beating headwear
incase they spill someting on the ground they need fast access to wipe it away, that's why it on their head.
You try living in the desert without A/C, and then tell me if you think wearing loose fitting, bright clothing would be a good idea.
Saudi Arabia is no more a Desert with No A/C's. I said thats how the tradition evolved...long back when there were NO A/C's....And yes, the country was poor before the oil was discovered.
Dry the dishes ????/ lol !!!!!!!!!!!! This is not good to tease someone I think its because of the climate, they do wear something which is ventilated nicely and the tea towels (lol) on the heads, might be to keep the heads cool from the heat.
I guess its their tradition which was passed on to them from their ancestors. Why do new zealanders do the "Haka Dance" ? :-D
