Not afraid of the world at all. But ignoring the fact that the world can be a dangerous place is well.... ignorant. If some S.O.B. breaks into my house, I can defend my family. Chances are that I would never have to, but having the ability to take out a criminal in my home is the ultimate security.

The problem is not responsible gun owners, it's criminals.

If somebody breaks into my house, there is practically zero chance that they'll be carrying a firearm. They'll never get close enough to use the knife that they're probably not carrying anyway, and the chance of one of us coming out dead is negligible.

Our criminals are just as nasty as in the USA, but they don't shoot people when they get cornered - simply because they don't have guns.

Gun related crimes are caused by guns, not criminals. Was the Wisconsin deputy sheriff a criminal before he went nuts on the community? Or a responsible gun owner?

So, if neither one of you has a weapon then what do you do to force the intruder to leave? Hand to hand combat? What if you are a woman living alone? Do you just ask him politely to leave? Or do you just sit there while he robs your home, while you are waiting for the police to arrive, hoping that he will just steal your possessions and not rape you?

I agree completely. The founding fathers gave us the right to arm ourselves because it is the best prevention against our own government evolving to a dictatorship as well as outside forces invading. Remember the minutemen? In the event of invasion the people would arm themselves and defend their homes. We are a government of the people and for the people. Unfortunately sometimes an idiot gets elected.

Hopefully, it wouldn't come to that. Usually, if the intruder is unarmed, just making them aware of the fact that you have a gun will be enough to scare them away. But if absolutely necessary, to protect myself, yes, I would shoot the guy.

When you outlaw guns then only the people willing to break the law will have them. So the person "breaking in" is armed and the homeowner or law abiding citizen is helpless. When the general populace is armed then the criminals have to fear drawing their weapons because "grandma in line at the Handymart" might put a bullet in their head.

Hum.. well look at England. Their cops cant even have guns. When someone comes into the country shootin, theyre defenseless. I think -only- cops should be able to carry guns.

So what are you saying you just run and hide, maybe beg for your life a lil'? Tastefully of course.:) How about while their raping you wife? Oh its ok, they don't have guns. Is it legal there to have a rag to wipe up the mess when you wet your pants?

IMO, Only cops (police) should have guns. Why general people need them? I never heard of any incidents like Virginia University Shooting except in the US. Owning guns can be tempting for some people I guess :p

#1 You know absolutely nothing about what the US was founded on do you?
#2 You have never read the US constitution have you?
#3 Did you read the link where a sheriff's deputy 'a cop' killed 6 people yesterday in the state I live in.

I hear of stories of big bombings happening in other countries where bombs are not legal, I guess since it's not a 'gun' that changes the entire story.

If someone wants to kill people they will, if there are no guns they can easily make a home made bomb that can kill more people than the average gun can, they can use a car as a weapon, their own hands, a knife and so forth.

Read some history, if you don't like what the US was founded upon by all means you do not have to visit ;)

Because most people own a gun in this country, the first thing I did when I became a "US American" :D was buy one.
It's too late to take away the guns now. Everyone has one.

Guns keep crime down. Criminals will think twice if they suspect you are armed.

Well I'll tell you what. You come over here and get all the guns out of the hands of criminals, and I'll get rid of mine in a heartbeat. Until then, don't concern yourself about the USA.

    /*tom*/

PS: Even if someone got rid of all criminals with guns, I might not give mine up anyway (contrary to my statement above.) I have the right to protect myself against a government gone wrong and would do so if need be without a second thought. My country's constitution gives me that right, and no one shall take it away. If they try, I'll kill 'em. :)

That's not entirely true. It depends on where you are (what state you're in) and what kind of gun it is. For example, some states require registration for any long guns, such as rifles. Whereas other states only require registration for stuff like concealed weapons (like you said), or assault weapons (fully automatic).

It's all very loose, and that kind of bothers me. The right to bear arms is guaranteed in our nation's constitution, yet each of the states makes all these weird specific little laws that only apply there. I know somebody who does competitive target shooting around the country and, depending on what state he's going to, it can be a real hassle just to get there. He usually drives, but depending on what state he drives through, he sometimes has to take his gun entirely apart and have ammunition completely separate. I do think that laws like that are generally good ideas, but I just wish there was some standardized set of laws that at least most states could adopt. Otherwise innocent people are going to continue getting busted when they truly have no bad intent and just got confused by all the differing laws.

Yeah because if guns were illegal nobody could get them hey? The criminal who is murdering people is really going to not buy an illegal gun simply because by law he/she can not have one.

Even without guns what do you not get about people can use a car, a home made bomb, hell even gasoline to kill many more people than a gun can.

However tragic a school shooting is it's a very small price to pay for living in a free society where gun ownership is guaranteed as a right to it's citizens.
