Exactly, and I think thats the problem with original poster. Everyone is led to believe many things about Americans that are totally untrue.

I have to admit I love my guns. I grew up hunting and target shooting and have been around firearms all my life .

Guns give a sense of security to some. Also there are hunters, and they use guns for their purpose, unless you're Dick Cheney, then you shoot someone. :D

I do not own a single gun, I however am proud of my fellow americans who choose to own a gun and practice their 2nd ammendment right to bear arms.

People who have no idea what our country was founded on or why our founding fathers thought it necessary to include this into our constitution get carried away and think it's legal here to own guns simply for the fact of owning them. They do not understand our founding fathers had the foresight to include this into our constitution so that the free citizens of this country could fight back a corrupt and evil government.

A government with total power over it's people easily becomes out of control, a population that is armed and able to fight back is much harder to opress.

    Pretty simple IMHO..

Even if you took guns away people would still kill people. Ban guns and only criminals have them, how does that make anyone safer?

Let the US government get out of control, do not let it's citizens have the basic means of making certain the government does not become overly corrupt and you have a far more dangerous situation on your hands.

It is apart of what our nation what founded on, I for one would not give up that right or wish that right to be given up to any of my fellow americans even 'if' it would save a few lives. Giving up what our great nation was founded on for 'safety' goes completely against what those brave men and women fought for in the Revolutionary war..

Is it trully that difficult to understand?

Exactly! Criminals are not going to give up their guns just because some politician decides to make them illegal. Ban guns and only the criminals will have them and law abiding citizens will have no way to protect their homes or their property.

How much more out of control and corrupt does the US government need to get before the citizens take back their country?

I don't see the constitution totally taken away, I don't see a King ruling, I don't see the population being rounded up and executed.

Is it perfect at the moment? Hell no.

Is it to the edge of needing to rise up against the government with violence instead of trying the republic ways of election, I think not.

False sense of security or not, it's still a sense of security.
If someone breaks into my house to rob or kill me, I'd feel much better of with my guns than with no guns. If you feel safer without them, so be it. Just remember that police come after a crime has happened, not before.

and how many countries have banned gun ownership and the citizens were not safe?

Didn't the Natzi's do something similiar?....

Safe if you put full trust in government to always be right and to not become evil dictatorships... Our country was not founded on trusting our government to always be good and pure.

I have several handguns ,shotguns and rifles . Fully automatic weapons are legal to own but they are to much trouble to obtain . But semi automatic rifles are perfectly legal in most states .

Criminals are people.. and they are not born criminals.
Sometimes when you have an access to a gun you make stupid choices and then you become a criminal... ;)

That's like saying someone has access to a bank, if they didn't have access they would not have robbed the bank. It must be the banks fault!

its better to have a gun and not need it, then to need a gun, and not have it.
