    Boilerplate alert!

You might have misunderstood our objectives and how we operate here. ODP is a volunteer organisation building a directory as a hobby. Editors edit where they wish, when they wish and as much as they wish within the constraints of their permissions. We have no schedules or systems to force people to do work that they don't volunteer to do. ODP is not primarily a free listing service for website owners and it does not attempt to process their listing suggestions within the time scales desired by them.

Some volunteer will process your listing suggestion in time but we can't predict who or when that might be. Elapsed times can range from a few days to a few years. There is no need to re-suggest your website and doing so could be counter-productive because a later suggestion overwrites any earlier one.

Getting a link in DMOZ is like playing the lottery. There is absolutely no guarantee you'll win.

Yeah, the truth is funny sometimes aint it?

Jim gave the best answer... but it's not the only answer, one of the other options certainly is via cash or friends... though, both of those do run the risk of getting your site banned as well. Still funny though, and I'm glad you think so!

A little off topic but if its a non profit i wonder who pays for the hosting fees. I can imagine a lot of money is required to run such a site where does that come from?

I have submitted all kinds of sites to Dmoz, few of which were ever listed. Like someone said, it's like playing the lottery. It's worth submitting but don't get your hopes up.

Not how *I* think, but how at least some editors are. Sad that many other editors are blind to this, as those clearly are options. I was also nice enough to point out that doing such things can result in a ban.

Its also funny how some people take the TRUTH.

What are the basic requirements to get listed, would it make sense to volunteer as an editor and make contact within?

Requirements listed here, perhaps you should try reading if you want to get listed or offer as an editor. http://www.dmoz.org/docs/en/add.html

Make one suggestion if you were to be accepted as an editor that you want preferential treatment for your site and you will find yourself sat on your derrière outside and no longer an editor.

What I meant was, is there a network of insiders to share information and discuss recomendations.

We have internal forums to discuss new structures, where sites should be listed, which sites should be listed etc. But if you use that to seemingly promote your own site, or try to get it listed when you do not have the authority to work in the area it should be listed in, that is not allowed.

Is PR a matter to get submitted in Dmoz? I don't think so. Can anyone correct me, if I am wrong?
