    It is called the 'Open' because anyone can post their website here. Now the real concern - why it so 'late' before accepting any website.

    There are certain reason behind it.

    Firstly it is the official directory of Google. And Google gives extra importance to Dmoz backlinks, is also no secrets. So it is quite obvious that everybody want that their website should be listed in Dmoz. As a result it gets million of submission request per day. And the resource of Dmoz (the volunteers) being limited, it becomes a herculean job. So there is the delay for listing website in Dmoz.

    Thats NOT the reason its called 'open'. Did you even read this thread before posting in it?
    You must have missed the memo that Google have shut down their directory .... months ago!
