directory submission is one of the best ways for one way link building and i believe this must be continues process
I agree than 10 PR6 links can give you PR6 provided that they have only one outgoing link in the end Ultimately these 10 PR6 sites need another each site needs another 10 PR6 sites 10X10=100........100000 in the end If you have a link with Pr6 site then the site would have more back links!
Oh my, some people are getting very confused. Mikey, the reason for your pr gain is due to the high pr links you bought, not the directory links. PR uses an exponential scale! e.g. to get PR2 you will need 100 PR1 links (estimate) but to get PR3 you will need 1000 PR1 links (estimate). Since free directory links rarely possess any pr, there is no way your PR gain can be attributed to them. Directory submission is only worth while when: 1. The page your link will be placed on possesses PR. 2. You receive traffic from the directory thanks to your link.
wow...never expected so many posts. What i was trying to say was the extra few hundred backlinks, many of which were PR1 and PR2 had helped my link building significantly. I know that im hardly going to gain a PR6 unless i have thousends of PR2 backlinks, but the combination of those many low PR links, and the high PR links i bought had helped a lot. I know iwebtool is wrong, as it doesnt judge the amount of outbound links on each baclink.
+1 I hired a service here at DP to do directory submissions to 200+ directories. I can't say it has helped any. Sites that get organic links do much better. Also I experimented with article submissions. There are only a handful of article directories that add any value.
i thought the algo for pagerank was commonly known http://www.iprcom.com/papers/pagerank/ gives a good run through with lots of different examples
Here's how i see it. You often see high PR sites with 10-15 high pr links. You can play with PR by only getting very high pr sites to link in. In this case the PR is weightless and will help little with rankings. It all comes down to quality and quantity.
wow, http://www.iprcom.com/papers/pagerank/ is quite in depth. I plan to do an experiment with my bid for position direcotry. My plan is to spend $600 buying 2 PR7 links on sites which offer no more than 10 outbound links. I'm pretty certain i will get a PR5, hopefully a 6.
I don't know the ins and outs of page rank as I'm quite a newbie at this. However I started 2 sites in November last year adn thought just to test the theory I would check page rank using your tool freewebspace (thanks for the link btw very useful) now my 2 sites are http://gimesumsex.com and http://gimesumlove.com. Like I said both were set up at the same time I have worked on gimesumsex mainly but have been rejected on many occasions for directories due to the adult content so I decided to promote gimesumlove.com using directory submissions from rana_sandhya here on DP. Anyway backt ot he point http://gimesumsex.com comes out PR 0 even though I've spent more time optimising the html and adding some links where I could. On the other hand http://gimesumlove with 1000 directory submitions has PR1 so I personally think that proves directory submissions do work. Thus Mikey I agree I think its worth it.
I see a lot of directories inner pages have no pr.The home page has maybe a 6pr. So is it really beneficial to place your link inside a category on a page with no pr?
