Digg will not work for you Digg and other social bookmarking websites are an absolutely great source of traffic. But these websites will not work for you because of the following reasons 1. Digg for one has a "Gamer" community. 2. You need friends to get to the front page 3. Your website is not technology related Digg for one has a "Gamer" community Sadly most of the people on Digg are gamers and hence digg bookmarks relate to technology. Social bookmarking websites are niche specific even if they claim to have a number of topics. There is always this one topic which gets the most diggs, or bookmarks in case of other bookmarking websties. You need friends to get to the front page Without friends your article will not be dugg and will therefore never get to the front page. And when you first begin you do not have any friends. The ultimate alternative The first option you have is to get onto digg, make friends, digg their bookmarks, and then hope for the favor so that your stories can make it to the front page. This takes time, time, time. The other option is that all the members on Digital Forum combine forces. Whenver a DP member bookmarks a post, every other member diggs it and writes a comment on it. This way every member can get their bookmark to the frontpage and digg will be transfomred from a technology, gammer oriented bookmark to a DP information oriented bookmark.
Yes getting on the first page of Digg is almost impossible without popularity (lots of friends), paying for diggs, or being lucky enough to have your page found by a popular digger.
I've found Digg to be an excellent resource, both as a Webmaster and a user. However, I certainly wouldn't put all my eggs in one basket and there are plenty of other social bookmarking sites that you should use to promote your articles on as well as Digg.
