Why did YOU start a Web Directory?

I did'nt, there are already too many of them

 

relatively easy and fairly cheap to start

its a good start for a new webmaster to get to learn things online

 

to increase the amount of pages to my website.

 

To corner the market in my niche ...

Turns out no one had a decent directory for one of the sites I built.

also to make $$$$$

 

Syted has a good point when stating that it keeps one out of mischief. It's pretty productive also in such you learn alot from other websites.

 

I think the incomes of Google Adsense program can't be a serious reason for directory starting. A quality SEO friendly directory can be the base of any good business relationships. If your directory and those categories has high Page Rank it's the best platform for any cross link-exchanges with relevant partners.

 

I'm building a Directory Network for two reasons:

First to built PR on my domain name
Second to pay part of my renewal

I'm buying LLLL.COM for investment then create directory on them to build a huge network.

DirectoryGator(dot)com is born around this strategy - Long term investment.

i started my first directory (Mrgoodfox), sold it and used to money to bring my current projects to where they are.

i hope the current owner is making a fortune from it.
