I submitted to some directories and found 99% to be really bad, so I decided to make my own and to deliver never seen new functionalities and value propositions to the market, let’s see how it goes, so I am doing it for fun, 100% of the money made gets reinvested.
I started a directory to analyze how all the other php developers created their recursive sql query table walkers - giving unlimited levels of categories. That was my "original" plan, but secondary... definitely MONEY!
because it was a challenge to learn php, smarty, mysql and phpld in 2 weeks and to also make something different that stood out from the normal boring crap. (that was a year ago and that was www.activeweblinks.com)
Well for making money, if you live on Europe, japan or USA, there are much more lucrative ways to invest your time.
directory get the rank from long time ... just wait and watch.. submit ur directory in other directory and try to get reciprocal links.. good luck , bye
In 2003 I was in a domain buying seen, I had purchased a little over 100 domains and I still have some of them, Unfortunantly I neve cared much for SEO and things. I was always making websites and got in the tutorial scence for Painshop Pro/Photoshop/ and Basic Flash and I wanted to put all of my resources that I had on my Bookmark/Favorites and as you can see the history of WWWS.ORG on WayBack Machine shows what kinda of directory I was building. Unfortunantly the scripts that I was using never suited me, there was always something that bothered me bout it, so I killed the project. About a year has past since I restarted on having a directory, now having more than I really wanted and far from accomplishing my goals, but I am getting there closer than ever. Being on this forum allows me to learn and see how the pros operate their directories. On a daily basis i'm learning and hopefully making my own path as I go. It seem's very easy thing to run, but in general it is actually hard to maintain.
Truly not for money, but to solve a problem; after getting requests from mates on good web-sites for there projects at college and as i have a very long bookmarks list in my favourites + get annoyed with searching threw the masses of links. Putting it all into folders is probably the most boring thing i could think of doing. So i decided to work on site that could display links that everyone could view, search and submit links too... After having a load of ideas and looking at the coding that would be needed i decided to cut back my plan and keep it simple by using a directory program instead. So i ended up with a Webmaster Resource + more which guests can submit links too. It has good traffic, but all profits go back into advertisements and site improvements.
