Why did Yahoo shut down their Overture keyword tool?

After being wiped out by Google I don't think it was a wise decision for Yahoo to shut down their Overture keyword tool. Why did they do this? So that people would bid higher on keywords that people never look up?

Ok I am new to this.. But I have been taught the most stupid question is the one not asked..

How would you use a Keyword program like this to benifit your site?

    Thanks

So you would signup for Yahoo Search Marketing of course. :)

So that you can research keywords. For PPC, it's a must because longer keywords (aka long tailed) provide better targeting of buying visitors. Additionally, long tailed keywords are less expensive. For SEO, it is important as well. I've seen a good number of people build backlinks with anchor text that has little or no search traffic. Plus you can optimize your pages for keywords that get you traffic.

Overture data hasn't been updated since January 2007. It was fast becoming useless anyway.

But more accurate in keyword results than another keyword site I have used. I found it more reliable than others.

To the OP where did you find out that Overture is closed. Even with the site up the server at times were slow. Sometimes causing the site to time out. But would like a link for the story of how you found out it closed.
