Hi all, First of all, my deepest condolences to all the families of the departed in the virginiatech massacre. I'm really sorry for what happened. Actually, I'm just wondering...why did most of these massacre happened in schools and universities in US? (No offence) Pardon me but if I'm not mistaken, I've never heard anything like this happen in other countries(correct me if I'm wrong). Let us sit back and think for a while...What are the factors/ reasons that lead to these tragedies? Thank you.
Maybe because other countries don't allow weapons to everyone... Imagine what would happen if weapons were freely allowed in countries like India/Pakistan .
Perhaps because US is one of the most 'free' countries there are...so somethings are much less strict that other contries (which is good and bad...)
or maybe because of their surroundings that pressure them? such as bullies, family problems, high hopes that can't be reach etc?
there are tons of reasons why one should own a gun... if someone breaks into my house and points a gun at me...i'd like to have one to point back (that one tops my list...but there are dozens more)... guns aren't the issue..lol...people are...
BS! How many Americans hunt to provide food for their families? The US has like 50,000 gun-related deaths each year. To put that into perspective for those with tunnel vision, that's more than 15 9-11's. BTW- the second amendment says nothing about HUNTING.
This is my response to couple of these statements in this thread . . . those intent on harm find the means. and BTW to further my point, 9-11 wasn't done with guns. I don't even own a gun but am now thinking about getting one. This world is just getting too insane! Reply to How many hunters do YOU know that do it for FUN?
I know two hunters. One uses a bow and one uses a gun. Both hunt for sport (fun). Look at countries w/ strict gun laws. Are you saying that we're just more violent people? Do you think all of those murders would be done even without guns?
It happens in other countries too.. I read it on BBC yesterday. The fact is , it just happens a lot LESS in other countries. Over 75% of all school shootings happen in the US. Why? Well, of course it has NOTHING to do with the fact that guns are so easy to obtain in the US.. Because saying that would be un-patriotic.. or something.
Exactly. Take this VT mass murder for example, that simply wouldn't have happened without guns (or at least a LOT less likely).
He could have just gotten some guns illegally then. Dumb criminals seem to have an easy time getting hold of them, I'm sure an psychotic english major could figure it out.
Students massacre are happened everywhere, not only in US. The different was, they not use firearms. Factor of massacre- life stress!
no, you shouldn't own a gun. you should buy your meat from the supermarket like everyone else does . If you want to hunt as a sport there should be some hunting clubs that are allowed to have weapons for hunting. Giving everyone a gun isn't a sollution for solving this problem
ok..ok...I got the gun thing but what is the main reason for the students to bring guns to schools/ universities and act brutally?
Look, I don't know anything about this VT situation. Did he obtain the guns legally? I don't know. What I do know is that you need a gun to commit a gun-related crime. That is a fact!
Real constructive, telling people what they should and shouldn't believe. My question to you is, what option are you left with if your house is broken into by someone who intends to shoot you? Do you think it's right for government to take that kind of security away from people? I don't. Right, and you need a car to run someone over. Does that mean we should ban cars because there are losers out there who would do that sort of thing? I know it's not as simple as that, but neither is the VT issue. You can't just ban guns and hope for the best. A gun ban is only going to disarm people who use them legally, while determined criminals and murderers will still have access to them. And I know that legal gun ownership causes deaths, but that's why we should be focusing on gun education instead of trying to ban them.
