Why delete post and give warning?!

    Hi,

I just want to ask why my post was deleted from https://forums.digitalpoint.com/threads/seo-looking-for-real-solution-big-money-site.2661507/ and I was given a warning?

I posted "Do you have details of what was done previously both on and off site? I wouldn't want to say I can get you back in x months without knowing exactly what has been done to cause the problems with your traffic and ranking drop's'! Feel free to drop me a PM on here if you would like contact details so we can have a chat and deeper look into what's wrong and what needs doing before I offer my services."

Which was addressing what the OP asked, so why on earth was I given a warning for that and my reply to the OP offering to help deleted?! How could this have broken any rules?! Really how and why!!!!!!!

    Thanks,
    Nathaniel

I believe that the mods want to discourage members from posting responses that would better be sent as PM's. If the mods didn't enforce this, can you imagine what this site would look like? It would be spam central.
Yes your response was longer than the usual PM type posts that we see, but still was a candidate for a PM.

So how am I meant to know if I should send a PM rather then use this forum for what forums are meant to be used for - discussing what was originally posted by the OP?

Should I simply not bother to post replies to people and only send PM's?

I know that may sound a bit sarcastic, but really, how are we suppose to know if we should reply to a thread or PM someone? What I posted to me was clearly ok to post publicly as I was asking for more details on the OP's problem which anyone who was interested in the thread should be aware of so, again I don't see the reason behind deleting my thread?!

So again, the real question here is when and how are we meant to know whether to reply or PM?!

P.S. I think it's worth me saying I don't mean to be rude at all as I know the above may sound a little rude or sarcastic to some? Which is not my intent in any way!

I would say this, if your response can be sent as a PM then do so.
In other words if *only* the OP benefits from your post and it is useless to others, then send it as a PM. If others can benefit, then post it as a comment.

Yes I agree with both of you, but surely in a case like the above where I asked the OP for more details - which anyone would need to know in order to help - isn't it a grey area where it could (and should IMHO) be publicly posted as a reply as the OP should be giving more details to make sure they get the right help?

I know on the other hand you could say that's down to the OP, but I just don't like how mods are so quick to give warnings for something so silly which could be post as a reply or a PM IMO!

NVM, I guess I will just start sending PMs for everything that's not public help from now on regardless to whether I think its something the OP should be telling everyone.
