I was on the second of Google for one of my sites and worked really hard on my content and there were no increase in backlinks. Within two weeks I jumped 14 spots to the first page in a nice top 5 position all due to content optimisations. Just goes to show that content optimisation is vital and its not just about incoming links to increasing your rank. Anyone disagree?
it's true, crawlers love text! it's like 4 example, a student can be nominated as class president not only being popular(backlinks) but also on his own attitude (content)...
Congratulations, i noticed the same thing when updating one of my sites, the serps when up for no reason other than adding the new content, but i would not rule out backlinks as they are a good part of any seo campaign.
Well, all things being equal - If I had thrown a whack of links at a page and you merely did some 'on-page' optimization - I'd out pace ya. Hands down. Backlinks will still do more than on-page. Obviously though, we want to do BOTH.
On-page factors like text were less important in the old Google. There is some evidence that it is becoming more important lately ... using phrase-based indexing (or some other LSI techniques), G seems to be giving more value to on page factors and somewhat less to links.
Content is vital for a site to get ranked but off site factors are more important for long term stability in the rankings. If all you had to do was update your content on your site to move up in the rankings means that your competitor can do the same to their website. The niche you are in may not be as competitive and thus onsite factors can cause changes to your serps. For more established markets adding content to your site is not gonna cut the mustard (it may for a little while), in the end you need backlinks to maintain high rankings.
There is no evidence that Latent Semantic Indexing made it into the organic G SERPs. I would look into Phrase Based Optimization - here are some goodies for ya From; http://www.site-reference.com/articles/Search-Engines/Google-and-Phrase-Based-Optimization.html
I agree, content is really the king. But backlinks still helps improving rankings. Backlinks helps the site to maintain the rankings.
I disagree completely that if you had a page with a ton of links vs a page with minimal links but good quality content that your page with the huge inbound links would out rank the high quality page. Content is ultimately what someone is looing for with a SE and thats where the importance is
As far as we know that both these 2 aspects (CONTENTS AND QUALITY LINKS) are necessary and factors affecting SEO rankings.... Content does count over backlinks? I don't think so...For me QUALITY LINKS over content. Why content is the king? When Link Building is the most difficult aspect of SEO... For quality links is still over the content.... That's why link bait is used with quality contents to get links...What do you think? Fresh contents are easily crawled by Google as you can see.. And link building is a difficult thing to do than Onpage Optimization... As you can see the Google doesn't see if your site have a quality contents but Google see if your site have quality links.. This discussion is being repeated all over again and again that content is the king?? For me quality links is the KING and content is only the QUEEN...
You need to do both, but the Gypsy has made some valid points. Backlinks over content, but both are necessary in order for your site to become a leader in its segment.......
Content is surely one of the most significant aspect of search engine optimization. Having a good content will always give you edge over your competitors.
exactly, good content will always stand out over any link because these days so many people are buying links that surely Google no longer put thems on such a ranking compared to good original content
Divide your valuable time for both(Content optimization & Link building) for stable and better positioning in top SERP's.
Exactly i believe that content is the king but back links are also too inportant to make your concept clear. So visit google sites. Thanx..........
They both count. Never focus all of your effort on one aspect of your site. SEO is like taking care of yourself - you need exercise, good nutrition, mental challenges, rest.... Too much of one thing won't make you healthy, and the healthiest people put time into all of these.
