Both OpenCart and Magento are open source e-commerce solutions. There are various articles available online that provide a good comparison of both the e-commerce solutions. Here are a few points on why would you prefer OpenCart over Magento. I will post another blog later on discussing why would you prefer Magento or any other open source e-commerce solution over OpenCart. OpenCart is user friendlier, easy to manage and administer. This means that a business owners with little technical knowledge or skills can manage/administer their opencart store as the control panel is simple and convenient to use. Magento is quite complicated and can be a bit confusing in the beginning. OpenCart is lighter and takes slightly less time to set up and configure This means that it would be cheaper to have it set up compared to Magento. Generally, opencart experts would charge less than setting up Magento store for a small to medium sized business. It is easier to find help for an OpenCart problem as there is great deal of information available in terms of forums, blogs, experts. Also, the learning curve is not as steep as Megento, you are likely to find more open cart developers compared to Magento experts. There are so many feature extensions available to enhance opencart functionality. This means, almost anything that Magento does can be done using OpenCart for e-commerce store. OpenCart provides free support and upgrades. If there is any feature that does not exist for OpenCart but Magento (I can’t think of any at the moment), you can find an opencart expert to develop an extension for the required functionality (and why look further than us: www.anopencartexpert.com). OpenCart is perfect solution for startups and small to medium sized businesses. Though it could be customised to suit large businesses with the help of right opencart experts. Last but not the least, OpenCart is one of the fastest growing open source e-commerce solutions. Without being backed by a very large organisation (which is the case for Magento, i.e., eBay), it is now among the top few solutions that many startups and small to medium level businesses are opting for.
Totally agreed.. Open Cart is very much user friendly as compared to Magento.. Also if there is a fail in any module in Magento. The whole website gets affected..
Or you can spend the few hours required to wrap your head around Magento and provide clients with a much sounder solution. Open cart is far less intuitive when you have to do things at the enterprise level. Nigel
I can do things manually and haul you into this century if need be. I would first suggest these folks as a matter of transparency http://www.shopping-cart-migration.com/ As an e commerce consultant there are range of benefits in putting me on board but I dont want to sound like a pitch for work. I export whatever you have and manually map headers in the CSV file to use this when moving to magento http://sourceforge.net/projects/magmi/ it affords me better control over the end result. I hope that helps a bit and if you need a hand feel free to drop me a note. I am pretty easy. I am happy to help sort out how to get it done faster and cheaper. Its largely my job lol... Nigel
Thanks for information about OpenCart. I just finished PrestaShop training. I have never tried OpenCart, only worked on PS.
OP - I have to agree with on about Opencart. Simple, cheap and not resource hungry....unlike Magento I have several website running Opencart. You can buy fantastic professional responsive themes from around $30 and configuration is a breeze... Magento takes more work to get your head around the config/setting up and is resource hungry....forget about using a cheap shared server account (although some people do for low traffic magento sites), you will need a host that specializes in Magento hosting and that means bigger overheads... I have also tried Prestashop, but still prefer Opencart.
The user ineterface is very simple to use, which is a huge advantage point when you are trying to explain a client how to use their new e-commerce site. Also Opencart has a huge range of extensions.
I agree with the points stated above, OpenCart is a good open source eCommerce platform and it is very easy to use. Its another advantage is that there are lots of extensions are available for this to enhance its functionality.
Nice post! Thanks for sharing such a great information about choosing the opencart over magento. I agree with your post and like your post also.

Both opencart and magento are open source ecommerce solution, there are few things for which people choose opencart over magento this points are like opencart is user friendly, easily to manage and its control panel is simple and convenient to use whereas magento is little bit difficult and confusing in the beginning.
