Why Can't We Have This Rule?

I may be a little late with this, but to be honest I rarely ever look for sites for sale in this section anymore because of all the crappy artificially bumped threads.

But in the Affiliate section on DP Shoemoney posted the new rule back in January that disallows "PM me for the URL" threads.

He stated the reasons why and those are the same reasons why it shouldn't be allowed here. So why is it a rule there and not here?
    1) EXACTLY. Users are coming here and posting PM me for the URL on hundreds of threads just to up their post count. That's why you see so many low post count users asking for URLs.

    2) Nuff said.

    3) Indeed. Scammers get noobs in PMs and can say anything they want to without being publicly checked. A user posting screenshots of the PM is too late. The scammer already has their money and they're gone.

So here's my thing.... (And I just want the mods and members here to see this and I'll leave it alone. I promise this is the last time I'll bring this up.) .... I got an infraction a while back for bumping a sale thread. And that just further validates my point. When you allow "PM me for the URL" threads you force legit sellers to do the same or watch their sale threads scroll off the front page in less than an hour.

With so many URL cloaking services out there like tinyurl etc. that whole "i don't want it indexed in google" excuse is just not valid. And sure maybe a high dollar site like $5k to $10k or more might have some sensitive info that requires a PM for th URL, but I can literally go find 5 threads right now where the sale price is $50 to $100 and the seller wants you o PM them for the URL.... They are blatantly using that to get around the no post bumping rule and it's just being allowed. Frustrating :(

    OK, PM me the URL.

    Ha-ha, just kidding ... :)

I totally agree with the fact that the URL should be in the site thread, whether obscured, cloaked or not. I, for one, never even bother "asking" for a URL or posting a "PM me the URL".

    Some good points, GeorgeB.

I'd also like to see a limit of one new post in this section in a 24 hour period. As it's annoying seeing the same site listed twice in a day, as well as a seller having multiple posts for different sites when they could have just one post for all sites.

GeorgeB. - Do what I did mate, put the site RSS feed into outlook and have it download it every 5 mins. Flag the listings that you like and subscribe to it. Then you dont have to worry about looking at 345 days old threads being bumped, and you dont have to keep seeing listings of sites that you dont like being bumped over and over again.

I donno but rss feed solved the readibility problem I think these forums have.

Yes i completely agree. It would be nice if mods could make it mandatory for the URL to be listed in the thread.

You make some very good points that I haven't even thought about before.

This really does circumvent all of the rules for the forum.

I always thought the reason people did that was so they would be notified when somone was interested in the offer, and they wouldn't have to keep checking their thread.

    I agree 100%.

I always post URL's. I got an infraction for updating the auction status (bumping the thread) which is just ridiculous when my post falls off the front page before it even gets 10 page views.

I hope the mods are taking note.

there should also be a rule for all threads that if you ask for and get a review copy og anything then you must post review. I dont even bother now to look through 3 pages of 'can i have a review copy' looking for a review.

Also ' pm me the url' is so annoying i dont bother anymore.

all you need is the [ code] [ /code] tabs around the url

Personally I don't even bother reading their thread if they don't post the URL. I don't care how much they think it's worth - if they can't be bothered to share it with me publicly I can't be bothered to ask about it, and don't trust them enough to ask about it either.

I see your point. As someone who sometimes request to be PMed for the URL, I know my reasons have only to do with hating to have my posts here (for a website I'm trying to sell for example) show up in search results if someone does a search on the site name. It always seems to me like the site's credibility is affected when people see that it was put up for sale.

I never really thought about the other points being raised here but I can see where you're coming from. I guess if I flipped the switch on myself I'd have to say, I don't like encountering 'PM me for the url' either. I usually just move on to the next post. Who has time to wait for someone to answer a PM?

And I've found that 9 out of 10 people who ask you to PM them the url are just out to waste their time and yours. Probably in the best interest of the seller to include all possible pieces of information in the post to begin with.

Ok here's what we do next time a poster say PM for details......

Post an answer that says ....

I am interested in your site but would like everything upfront so please post detail her in the thread for all to evaluate, otherwise I am not interested

Totally agree with George. I had just bought a site for 25k as everything was out in the open, but I would never have even took it further if I had to go fishing for details.

I think for all marketplace posts they should require ALL INFO be in the thread so that way if its a scam the veteran members can help the newer people not get scammed. If your selling a site why is it so hard to gather all the info YOU KNOW people will want and have it ready instead of adding post with screen shots and stats. It should all be upfront, great points OP!

Yeah there's a bunch of BUYERS posting in this thread agreeing so sellers should take note!

Even if the DP mods don't agree you can see from this thread that the people who actually have the money to buy your site are ignoring it.... not tire kickers and people looking to pad their post count. If everyone posts the URL or at least cloaks it, then everyone will benefit from having their sale stay on the front page longer, including you!

unkush, you are right..... mods please move this thread :D

people can post url's like this w()W()w().digital()()point()dot()com to get it in the topic if you are really interested in the site you will remove the()()() or like already said cloak the url :) It is so annoying when url is not posted .. yes I do reply send me details but this is not to boost post count this is because Yes I may be interetsed .... but it is a pain in the a$$

yes , i really agree with you , unless they are true and has a value you said , i find no reason except the person being a scammer or the site is useless...if he is hiding the URL and other info and asking to PM him

my suggestion : MODS please make a rule that if someone wants to sell a site he should mention the site name in the thread title itself or in the first post..
