Why can't twitter make money off of ADS

    What is with Twitter?

They have so many users and so much strength on the internet, yet they can not come up with a way to make money.

Google was able to do it, and now you-tube is making it happen.

I have to believe that if they sat there for one hour and though about it they could come up with a way to make money off of Ads.

I want to see how long it will take this forum to come up with a way for twitter to make money.

What do you guys think? Can you come up with a way for Twitter to make money from Ads.

Personally, if I were in charge of Twitter, I'd put up some ads and, in turn, make money. Not sure if anyone thought of this before, and I'm no marketing genius, but this would probably work.

The model is already there. I use a service that transcribes my voicemail into text messages and send them to my phone. This service is currently free and includes a short (≈ 50 character) ad. The character limitations of text messages and twitter are very similar so I think this does relate.

I am not sure that this method will prove profitable but there are a number of companies attempting to make it so.

A lot of internet users hate ads, and find them alienating. People who use twitter feel it's part of 'their' community and resent overt commericalization of it.
It's like people who think their posts are so much important than anyone else's that they put them in big black fonts. It's very annoying

i am not from twitter, but I work for a new social utility website and we are trying to come up with ways to make our system better based on the mistakes of past companies.

So I figured if we all sit here and think about what Twitter is doing wrong we can come up with ways to make our own websites better.

you should be happy they dont place ads...how would you like what you are saying be obscured by an ad at the end. Instead I think twitter should start there own ad service with strict guidelines and terms. then people can chose what they want to share and make a percentage of the ad profit. they should do this instead of other twitter ad networks getting the monies! (see my sig freebie..I am monitezing a little on twitter)
