If I do link:lookup for my site in G it shows 58 links. But most of these links are from the internal pages of my site. I have done the backlinking from various directories and a few websites but these are not shown when I do the lookup? I was told that G lookup shows links only from PR4 pages. However some directories where I have listed my site has a PR4 or above. I have also seen when I check the backlinks for some other sites that G shows links even from PR2 links. I had also read that G takes 4-6 weeks to show the backlinks. I have put these links almost more than 10 weeks back. Also if I had put links on 1 or 2 directories I would have understood as probably G is not indexing those pages. But I have put my links on more than 25 directories/sites having PR4 or above and atleast 50 more having PR less than 4. It can't be that all 25+50 directories are not indexed. Can someone explain me this? Harish
If you'd like a more complete listing of your links, try check them in Yahoo. Just type: link:http://www.yourwebsitehere.com in the yahoo search box.
Google only shows a small sample of backlinks. The backlinks don't appear to be chosen against any discernable criteria (not below PR4, only old established links, only new, etc.) This is basically to reduce its usefulness to SEO. As Summer says use Yahoo and you can be reasonably sure that Google has htese links as well.
There are many reasons why your links may not be showing. Perhaps the page your link is on has not been crawled by google. Maybe your link was removed. Perhaps google is just screwing with you . Google is showing less then PR4 links now, but obviously filtering them some other way.
Try searching for the pages that link to you (maybe search for a particular phrase on that page). When they come up in your search results, you can look at the cached version and see if your link is there or not.
Just to echo what everyone else is saying, you cannot trust the backlinks that display in Google. I just had a few hundred backlinks from forum postings dissapear, along with most of my directory links. Anyone who focuses too much on Google's antics will surely lose their sanity.
Just to addition these messages; I prefer using beta.search.msn.com to find out ibls. Also are you sure those sites that you submited your site have given you clean backlink?
