It can take a good while to build a list. I'd also reach out to other webmasters in your niche, see if you can write a free article talking about blogging for THEIR newsletter, and put a call to action "Get two free ebooks about how I make good money blogging at my website!" at the end of your article. You'll "steal" some of their subscribers this way. Problem is, most webmasters in the IM niche will be onto you and might not be interested in a cross share. But some might.

It can take a year to build up to 1000 subscribers a lot of times. Unless you make getting subscribers a huge part of your marketing plan, which can take a lot of time/money/energy. Personally I don't do free newsletters anymore. The returns were never as good as I wanted them to be. Instead, I offer a free report that they can download immediately as a pdf file and I put affilaite links within the report. This works nicely for me across a wide range of niches.

I personally think most people are allowing themselves to get so overwhelmed by subscribing to newsletters, Twittering, etc. that at some point email marketing is going to be completely dead. That moment may be now, actually, for many people.

Brian Gardner's themes are fab! But there's a bit of a learning curve to use them properly. I highly suggest spending some time in learning how to use the thumbnail feature. Get rid of the BB images ;) And add some color! Black is so somber and unfriendly. You need some confidence building color - ever wonder why most corporations have blue in their logos? That's why. Google it.

Everything else is covered above. Good luck with that.
